My family, my work (Ludgate Farms), fiddling, folk fiddle tunes, music jams, cross country skiing, hiking, mountain biking - bicycling on trails, hiking, contradance, Contra Dance, square dance.
Music
I listen to a lot of different folk genres mostly while driving to and from work, but what I'd rather do is play my fiddle (with friends is the best), and I practice alone as much as my family will permit it :) Here is an mp3 sound clip from a large music jam I hosted. This is a simple old time tune in the key of D
"Angeline The Baker"
I am an amateur fiddler from the Ithaca NY area. I host and attend various folk / acoustic music gatherings in and near my home town and surrounding area.
I also host cycling (mostly on trails), hiking and cross country ski outings. I am learning New England and NYS "northern" old-time fiddle tunes suitable for dancing, but also enjoy Irish, Celtic, Canadian, Southern Appalachian, Cajun, Klezmer, Bluegrass and other folk fiddle styles and tunes. I host weekly slow jams at my home and occasional "big jams" and house concerts that are a great way to meet other folk musicians. Send me a message here at MySpace if you are interested in learning more about Ithaca area fiddle and folk music happenings!
I just got a new tenor banjo (4 string) as a gift from my lovely wife ... it's like the kind you see at Irish sessions and used to be popular in old time string bands 50 to 100 years ago in NYS, it is so much fun! Check it out at the next jam ... OK now I am getting crazy, just bought a celtic style mandolin! Latest: I'm taking a break from fiddle and banjo to finally learn some guitar - an instrument I've been avoiding! Next scheduled large gathering at my place is Sept 01 -- we are hosting a potluck dinner that evening followed by a jam.
I love to meet new people, but if you add me and we haven't met: please introduce yourself in some way. - Thanks :-)
Who I'd like to meet:
I'd like to meet other folk musicians and outdoor enthusiasts who use MySpace. I always love meeting new acoustic musicians. I am studying mostly northern tunes appropriate for contra dancing, but I am always trying to learn other genres of fiddling ...
Hey, Mike! Thanks for the add... I know you're a family man, so I probably won't see you at the CD Release party this saturday, but have a good weekend - and as always, thanks for all you do to bind together this community of musicians!!! mark
Hey, thanks, Michael! We'd love to be back in Ithaca...we were looking forward to being there in April, but we'll try again some other time. See you at the Flurry!
Hi Michael, thanks for finding me here! We might even have already met.
What is it about cyclists and folk music? It looks like you are doing wonderful things down there on the lake! I'll be in Tburg Saturday night, maybe you can come out for a bit? Thanks again, and enjoy! ~wllm~
Excellent party! Thanks for everything, including all of your organizing efforts that create such an excellent music (and unicycling) scene in Ithaca! I hope we see you and your family again soon. We had a wonderful vacation. And I'm in love with your cat. :-)
Ashokan Northern Week was like WAY beyond amazing. Best week of my life. Have you ever gone? You should consider going sometime. I think you would love it.
