Michael Allen is the author of several novels and a few other published works. The first novel he was ever contracted to write was for John Gordon Burke and it was about New Urbanism. A New Return to Urbanism is a book about the new way architects and city planners are designing cities for the pedestrian. That book got Michael Allen his start in the world of publishing.
His next work was a look at the notions of law, crime and criminal behavior. Having been a correctional officer in the State of Maryland Department of Corrections, he observed quite a few interesting incidences that made him take note. A Danger to Society is the product of those notes and Michael Allen does a great job wrapping the truth around a hilarious story that involves a man and a case of mistaken identity.
After that novel was published, Michael Allen went on to write a few screenplays. Between the Bullets is the story of an assassin who falls in love with his mark's daughter. He was asked by the producer to write the screenplay and the concept was developed totally by the producer. But, Michael Allen says he had a great time collaborating on the work. After outlining the project, Michael Allen was responsible for making it happen and Vu Nguyen, the producer couldn't be happier. "Michael, the script is awesome... I love it!" The screenplay is set to be out in 2010.
Once that project was complete, Michael Allen was asked to write another screenplay for a producer out of Maryland. He was given the concept and Wooji became a reality once the producer and Michael Allen went back and forth about the treatment. Now, the screenplay has been written and the production is in progress. Michael Allen is keeping his lips sealed when we discuss what Wooji is all about. But, we were able to pry a little bit out of him. The Wooji is an evil spirit who gains influence over a boy who comes from a dysfunctional family. His first act is to confront some bullies from school. But, that's just the beginning. The evil goes much further.
Throughout his writings, Michael Allen has also published Thoughts and Reconsiderations which is a collection of his poetry. But at this time Michael Allen is interested in publishing Ashlie Wrote, a novel about a California girl who grows up in rough times and finds her way out to become the millionaire business woman she is today. But the story is distracted by sex and the pursuit of pleasure, which is a sharp reflection of the very nature of Ashlie herself. It's a true story, but the names and places have been changed to protect the innocent.
Living in Tampa, Florida, Michael Allen's life has been quite a journey. A few years in the Marine Corps. An English Teacher in Western Maryland. He now enjoys his laid back lifestyle half a mile from the beach and a few miles from his daughter.
