I hope no one is bothered by the fact that I removed the biography, but I felt it was time to focus on Michael's future, rather than his past....That being said, we all know what an outstanding job Michael Cavanaugh has done as the "Piano Man" in Movin' Out. But he is not just "the Billy Joel Guy," as many people have come to know him. If you've purchased his CD "Sounds Alot Like Me." then you know what I mean. If you haven't purchased it, I highly encourage you to do so. The music has a classic yet edgy sound, and the lyrics and music are just phenomenal. But don't take my word for it. Because of all his success with the show, alot of people haven't realized how far his talents extend. He is not only a gifted pianist, he's also a brilliant songwriter in his own right and an absolutely dynamic vocalist. While we're grateful for all of his unforgettable shows on Broadway, his fans are eagerly looking forward to seeing him succeed as an original artist. And while being compared to Billy Joel is probably the highest compliment a musician can achieve, we want people to know that Michael Cavanaugh is no longer just "The Billy Joel Guy."

Michael Cavanaugh is a charismatic performer, musician and actor, made famous for his piano/lead vocals in the Broadway Musical Movin' Out.
Michael Cavanaugh was handpicked by Billy Joel to star in title role and evokes a style rivaling the Piano Man. Michael appeared in the show for 3 years and over 1200 performances, receiving accolade after accolade, which culminated in 2003 for both Grammy and Tony award nominations.
Michael began playing at age 7, when his parents bought their first piano.
Encouraged by family and friends, and inspired by his hero Billy Joel, Michael formed his first band at age 10 and began playing local functions, fine-tuning the craft that would become his chosen career.
His first full time gig as a musician was an extended engagement in Orlando Florida at a piano bar called Blazing Pianos. In January of 1999, Michael received an offer that would unknowingly change his life, with an opportunity to play Las Vegas at the famed “New York, New York Hotel and Casino.” It was there that Billy Joel spotted Michael and joined him on stage one fateful night of February 2001. It only took 2 songs before Billy was convinced that he had found his new Piano Man, Michael Cavanaugh. Michael closed up shop at New York, New York and moved to New York City to work alongside Billy Joel and Twyla Tharp, to shape the Broadway Musical that would be called “Movin’ Out”.
With the close of Movin’ Out at the end of 2005, Michael began touring in his own right, creating a show that reinterprets the modern pop/rock songbook. Michael soon became one of the hottest artist’s in the corporate/events market. He continues to perform worldwide for company and charity events as well as sporting events including PGA tour events, the US Open, the Indy 500.
It wasn’t long before Symphony Orchestras discovered Michael’s talents and audience appeal. He accepted his first orchestral booking, a “Michael Cavanaugh – The Songs of Billy Joel and more” which debuted in April of 2008 with the Indianapolis Symphony and he is currently touring this production.
In October 2008, he signed with Warner/ADA to distribute his first CD titled “In Color”. When not on the road or recording, Cavanaugh is based in Las Vegas, Nevada where he lives with wife and kids.
Who I'd like to meet: I'm not sure whom all Michael wants to meet...I bet alot of people want to meet him, though! I will go out on a limb, however, and say that I think Michael wants to meet all of his fans, based on a comment he posted on his journal at www.MichaelCavanaugh.com, saying that after all of his performances, he always likes to hang around afterwards and sign autographs, and try to talk to every single person that wants to meet him. What a nice guy!
Hi Mike, thanks for the add...do you remember my husband Tim and I from MANY late nights at Blazing Piano's in Orlando. You always played NY State of Mind for us when we asked, so glad to see your great success! We have great memories of you, Rick and the "fireman" don't remember his name in old age...where do you and the family live these days? We are back in Indianapolis closer to family, left Orlando in 2005 and yes, it is brutally cold! Will we be able to see you anywhere around the area soon here in Indianapolis?
