Mike's family has requested memorial donations be made in his name to Eblen Charities, 12 Regent Park Ave., Asheville, NC 28806.
Eblen is a local charity that helps people with whatever they need -- money for gasoline to get to medical appointments, prescriptions, eyeglasses, food, rent, heating assistance in the winter and more. They don't ask for proof of poverty and they treat everyone with dignity.
When Mike first went to Duke, Eblen paid for two very expensive antibiotic prescriptions and for gas to get to his appointments.
The people at Eblen were inspired by Mike's courage and humor, and when they open their new building next year, a break room will be named in Mike's memory. A perfect tribute to a man who loved coffee and breaks.
What can I say about me? I am kind of a dark individual, but thats ok, I don't mind, and if you do, so what. I am an ego maniac with an inferiority complex, so I'm usually confused. I am also mostly English and Irish, so I hate myself for oppressing me. Mostly I just revel in my own insanity.
I miss you, last christmas was tough and you gave tremendous support when I needed it. I miss the crazy shit that comes out of your mouth. (Roastbeef!) I will never forget that, it was gross. Well I'm always thinking of you. I love you. You truly were a great friend.

OMFG! Mike! Buddy! I'm Sorry! You will truly be missed. (I only wish someone told me sooner) I knew Mike for years when he lived up here in New York. He was my best friend, ever. I am very sad now.
