   About Michael Gruber
Thirty years back, a father gave up the six-string and signed up the seven year old for lessons instead.

Michael Gruber has always loved the song craft of great writers like Lennon and McCartney, Greg Brown and Bob Dylan. Born from the drop a needle in the well worn groove of Kottke's Green House and Mudlark he grew as a guitarist under the tutelage of Professors Stropes , Linke and Roller at Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and finally earned his BFA-PG degree in 1996.

His first cd, Yesterday Is Make Believe, is an easy swinging collection of folk with R& B leanings, pop songs and finger-style acoustic artistry with contributions from Biff U. Blumfumgagnge on violin, Lil Rev on harmonica, Peter Roller on dobro and Jeff Ray engineering and producing.

Gruber's involvement in the Madison Scene is checkered and storied. As the original bass player for Jim James and the Damn Shames, he was given the boot for being just too damn shamefully good looking. Picked up later to play and sing in Mark Croft's and Greg Winkler's debut cd releases, tours, and television performances, Gruber now devides time between raising his kids to be rock stars, playing solo and collaborating with jazzy acousticrafty songwriters Andrew Nath and Kris Adams in After School Special.

In the works, a second solo cd and the pop punk garage band Godsdog!

Unbeknownst to most mortals, Mr. Gruber was found shortly after birth floating in a sea of reeds (in Egypt). Getting in good with the royal family, he later went on to a illustrious career as a bringer of plague and freer of slaves.
his sense of navigation; however, was not quite as good.
It was these subsequent years of exile that prompted him to pick up the guitar again, to become the master of disaster to a whole new generation of heathens.

just don't ask him for directions.

Hey there Michael, thanks so much for the birthday wishes! It was a wonderful day, with cake enough for a week. We didn't have room in our (tiny French) fridge for it, so we just slowly nibbled at it from the countertop until it was gone. Can you bring yourself to eat the last piece of cake? I can't!

Hope to see you in July. We'll be passing through Wisconsin then. I'll be checking up on your show dates so we don't miss you.

Take care!
