A highway collision of Indie Rock/Folk and blues, Michael James is everything going on in music today, but all at once. High energy and hyper-activity collide for an emotionally charged roller coaster ride through Indie music. Mike Angus of Vue Weekly Magazine raves, “James’s cathartic approach to songwriting doesn’t come across as wearing his heart on his sleeve, but rather, on his bandaged arm.” Drawing from his own true struggles and experiences, Michael makes masterpieces out of mayhem.
Running of the success of his March 2009 release “Tall Shadow Short Walk”, Mike felt a strong need to still push himself even further. So, he left his basement studio behind and headed to one of Edmonton’s finest recording facility, Sound Extractor. Joined in the studio by Toronto based producer, Mike Langford as well as James’s band “the Rawdogs”, Mike set out to raise the bar on himself yet again. The result of the experiment is his latest recording…”The Cold Land EP”. This recording is perfect blend of Mike's creative song writing and heart stopping Rock and Roll beats. Make no mistake, MJ is an artist of the next generation in Rock and Roll.
In its live form, they are a high-energy rock trio, that has been able to stand tall along side such acts as Corb Lund, Hey Ocean and Portugal the Man. With James at the helm handling the song writing, guitars and vocals, flanked by percussionist Kurtis Schultz and bass player Eugene Raam, “Michael James and the Rawdogs” truly are the essence of rock n’ roll, and the purist example of the direction music is headed.
Michael James has an amazing ear for creating good music. His work is honest, emotion-driven and consistent. Every new listener becomes a believer in this project, and there is no doubt that this is only the beginning.
