Influences
This is the section where I list my influences so I can sound hip. Here goes (in no particular order): Joe Henderson, Steve Grossman, Rich Perry, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims, Sonny Stitt, Gene Ammons, Johnny Griffin, Lockjaw Davis, Chris Lightcap, Rick Margitza, Don Aliquo, Jeff Coffin, Tony Malaby, John Coltrane, Johnny Hartman, John Ellis, Tony Dagradi, John Vidacovich, Mike Pellera, Phil Woods, Keith Jarrett, Joe Lovano, Steve Lacy, Sam Rivers, Horace Silver, Bob Berg,Cedar Walton, Gene Ludwig, Don Patterson, Paul Motian, Jim Emminger, John Hollenbeck, Fred Hersch, Eric Traub, The Meters, Counting Crows, Matthew Sweet, Frank Kimbrough, Ben Allison, Michael Blake, Matt Wilson, Lester Young, Dewey Redman, and all of the great musicians of New Orleans, LA and Pittsburgh, PA.
Saxophonist Michael Jenner was born in Virginia and raised in the woody hills of suburban Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Jenner moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1997 to attend Loyola University. After graduating in 2001 he has had many wonderful experiences including releasing his debut cd "The Michael Jenner Group" in 2002. The last five years were spent falling in love with the city, music and culture of New Orleans. Jenner is currently pursuing a master’s degree in jazz studies at Middle Tennessee State University and residing in Nashville, TN. (With numerous trips home; all apologies to Nashville but it is hard to beat the food and people of New Orleans.)
Feed The Kitty was formed by saxophonist Michael Jenner in early 2005 in New Orleans, LA. Their music is characterized by an open approach to the written material and a commitment to stay in the moment. Feed The Kitty recorded its debut album in New Orleans in September 2006. It will feature Michael Jenner, Tim Green, and Jason Mingledorff on Saxophones; Brian Coogan on various Keys and Simon Lott on Drums, Percussion, Toys, and Smiles. Look for a fall 2008 release date.
2002’s Michael Jenner Group CD is in very limited edition due to the flood but is available directly from me or from the Louisiana Music Factory. It features Brian Prunka and Jesse Lewis on guitar, Brian Coogan on rhodes, Tommy Sciple on bass, Mark di Florio and Simon Lott on drums, Brian Seeger on pedal steel, and Andrew McLean on tabla.
I have yet to hear from them yet---still waiting to see if they want me. Though, if i had a gig that way, I most certainly would come. You ever come this way?
I just ran into a nashville saxophonist playing a reunion gig in Seattle. Said he just met you a week ago playing darts with Jeff Coffin. I hear you're heading back to NOLA. Miss you. Happy Carnival. Mark D.
What up??? hey man, are you still in Nashville?? I'm doing a showcase Monday April 23rd, at BB King's. Might hang for a couple of day's if your in town.
I hear Geoff Clapp is in Nashville. What's goin' on? You look all grown up in this picture. You keep in touch and make it over to the NW to hang with me and Sciple...Mark D.
Hey Feed the Kitty, they call me Hello Kitty, lets start a band called Feed Hello Kitty. I think I just missed you when I left NO in 2000. Heard about your record, sounds great. Matt
John Ellis just passed through Portland with his band. Serious! We chatted about you a bit. Talked to Prunka today and we wondered about you. Keep in touch.
Peace....Mark

Man on a mission, transcending time, music is a language of the divine."

I wish you happiness and good fortune for all of your days. Thank you for your friendship and support!
Got your call a while back but I've been BUSY! Teaching a lot this summer, mostly music camps to youngsters. Playin a lot of good music with good people and today I'm heading out to hike around Mt. St. Helens with Joanna and Tom Sandhal. Did you record the record in June? I'll be recording under some nice conditions with Devin Phillips at the end of August. Miss you a bunch. We need to plan for a serious hang in NYC, not because I like that damn city only because so many of our peoples are over there. Be well my brother.
Hey man.. I am in the middle of buying a house right now.. Should be moved in by august.. you should come up for a weekend or something later this summer!
