Michael J. Perkins Wins People’s Choice Award for Best Lounge Act
Plainfield, Ill.—Entertainer, Michael J. Perkins, was ecstatic when he was voted as Best Lounge Act during the 11th Annual "Best of the Burbs" Awards held at the Pyramid Club in Addison on March 26.
The awards were sponsored by Suburban Night Life magazine, a local magazine and website (www.nitelife.org) that informs the public of trendy hangouts, bars and hot spots in the Chicagoland area.
According to Perkins, he was stunned when he was announced as 2006’s best lounge act. “To be up there with such big names such as Rick Saucedo, Vito Zatto, and Tony Ocean, I didn’t expect to make it as far as I did, or even win,” he said. “It’s such an honor.”
By day, Perkins, 25, works for the Marriott’s Fairfield Inn in Naperville, Ill. By night and weekends, his performance makes audiences swoon by his good looks, charm and Frank Sinatra talent all over the Chicagoland area.
Singing since age three and knowing he wanted to make music his life in just the third grade, Perkins began his professional career by singing at local events in 2002, and has expanded to upscale restaurants, banquets, and weddings ever since. He brings the standards back to life with classics from his biggest influences Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, and Dean Martin and often described by his fans and friends as confident, classy and smooth.
Mike Sallade, a close friend of Perkins, remembers the first time he heard his demo. “When I first heard it, I was convinced that it was actually Frank Sinatra singing instead of him,” he said. “The similarities were uncanny!”
Amee Bohrer, fan and friend of Perkins, claims that the performer is a class act. “He exudes class and style, from his trademark fedora to his phenomenal work ethic,” she said. “I am astounded by both his talent and his love for the music he performs; he will engage the audience with his stage persona and most importantly, that velvet voice.”
Perkins says he is incredibly grateful for the support from his family, friends, and fans. “They keep me going, they voted for me, and they are the reason why I got this award.”
“It is impossible to not have fun at one of his shows-- he defines star quality,” said Bohrer.
