"To those who listen to and enjoy my songs, I am truly grateful."
Michael Kosterman is a singer songwriter from British Columbia Canada. His life has been a series of adventures and experiments designed to find himself and his place in this world. There have been good times and there have been bad. Through it all Michael has always written down what he was feeling. In the beginning they were just words, but a great love of music and songs made the transition to songwriter inevitible.
Michael's mother, Sheila, was also an avid music lover. At a very young age music became a common part of life. Elvis Presley was one of the artists that Michael remembers hearing early on. The King became a major influence and like so many others Michael will always feel a connection to Elvis.
In the 70's Michael discovered The Eagles, and fell in love with the sweet blend of vocal harmonies and amazingly brilliant songs. The albums Hotel California and The Eagles Greatest Hits 1971 - 1975 became huge influence's on Michael's writing and singing. To this day Michael considers The Eagles to be the greatest band of all time.
In the early 80's Michael was in the Canadian Navy. At that time Bryan Adams and John Cougar Mellencamp were topping the charts. Michael also admired the band Bad Company and particularly the vocals of Paul Rodgers. The styles of these artists also became influential on Michael's songwriting and singing.
After leaving the military Michael decided to perform for a living. He travelled all over British Columbia playing in pubs as a duo with a few different partners. Life on the road was difficult and playing other people's songs was not where Michael's heart was at. After a few years it was time to make a change. It was at that time that Michael settled down and married. Although the marriage did not work, the result was four incredible children that are, and always will be the light of Michael's life.
In the early 1990's Michael heard a completely new style of music. It immediately grabbed him and rekindled his passion for music and songwriting. The artist was Garth Brooks and the album was Ropin' the Wind. Garth's music became another major influence for Michael. At first he just focussed on his songwriting, but the encouragement and kindness of local entertainer Ken McCoy, helped Michael to realize that he truly loved performing live.
In 2004 Michael teamed up with some local players and formed a band. Although the band did not last long, Michael was inspired to write even more songs. The independent music business made it possible for unsigned artists to recieve radio airplay and Michael found that many stations were willing to air his songs. The first of which was KIK-FM in Queensland Australia, thanks to Aleta Tulk and Ted Annand. As a result of Michael's efforts his songs can be heard today on independent radio stations all over the world.
In 2007 Michael discovered Myspace and the ability to reach more fans. Since then he has been writing, recording and sharing his music here. There is no doubt that many people enjoy Michael's music and respect his talents as a singer songwriter. He intends to continue to write and record whenever possible, whether or not the music is commercially successful. The dream now is one day to release a CD with the songs that are in reality the representations of the chapters and pages of Michael's life, and to play those songs wherever people want to hear them.
Michael now lives with his wife Deidra and her three children on a farm in British Columbia. Being close to nature and the open spaces has been good for Michael and his writing. Nature and the preservation of it, as well as the rights of first nations peoples, are very important to Michael. He has come a long way and learned many of his lessons the hard way. He is commited to his family and to his friends and more than anything else he believes in freedom and understanding.
Music is an art form that brings people together like no other. We sincerely hope that you listen to Michael's songs and pay particular attention to the lyrics and the thought provoking stories they contain.
Thank you so much to the long-time supporters of Michael, and especially to those who have become friends here on Myspace. Those of us who believe in Michael are extremely grateful for your kindness and generostiy!

Like you I hated him at first and wanted him to be voted off and now it would be funny if he was to win and to see their faces when they find out who he is and what he did to win. When you think of how the game has to be played he's playing the best game of all. I'm not sure if I would want to go into business with him, I think I would rather be in business with him then be on the opposite side of the table. Good thing my kids are adults and I don't have to worry about a babysitter, lol. I look forward to watching the next show because of him.
