I remember...
...when I was nine, my class was shown the usual band instruments by the director to see if anybody wanted to join. For some reason, my hand shot up in the air and I grabbed an alto sax. I subsequently belted out an awesome honk that everybody seemed to think hilarious. The next thing I know, I’m at a music store picking out a horn. Of course, I was a natural...it only took me a week to master the aforementioned honk. And it’s still one of my favorite licks...burnin’! In the following years, I lost the contest to practice the least every year.
I love movies. Planes, Tranes and Automobiles led me to Giant Steps, Cannonball Run turned me on to Julian Adderley and Soylent Green got me to appreciate the guitar. Movies are deep.
Later, I moved to a floating party boat and championed the world record the the longest continuous version of Mack the Knife, clocking in a 4 hours and 9 minutes. Having mastered that, I moved to LA to farm coconuts, but seeing how tall the palm trees actually were, decided to pursue my banking hobby instead.
