Sounds Like
"Take a 19-year-old punk kid, stick him in the middle of a dusty farmer’s field and hand him an acoustic guitar — what you’ll end up with is Edmonton’s Michael Rault, a prairie boy rooted in rhythm and blues yet in love with rebellion"
- Amanda Ash, Exclaim Magazine, CAN..............................................................................................................
"Rault’s trad R&B covers and originals sound great on his debut EP, Crash! Boom! Bang! but to fully appreciate his dedication and energy you have to see him live. Watching 19-year-old Rault stomping away alone on stage will make your jaw drop. He’s already conquered the Canadian college radio charts, but something tells me this is just the beginning."
- SEE Magazine, Local Bands to Watch in 2009..............................................................................................................
"Rault displays the sincerity and substance to bill himself equally as a singer/songwriter in addition to the grit and energy to come off as the leader of a fire-breathing rock ‘n’ roll band"
- Adam Kamis, Beatroute Magazine..............................................................................................................
""(Rault) has the chops -- both vocal and guitar -- to pull off his retro sound without sounding dated or derivative in any way"
- i (heart) music blog..............................................................................................................
"Living proof that the blues has to sound nothing like predictable, corpse-raped Stevie Ray Vaughan, Rault is so close to the beating heart you can smell the phosphorus." - Fish Griwkowsky, SEE Magazine, CAN....................................................................................................................
"With years of performing already under his belt, Rault's become brilliant at taking traditional sounds and turning them into something raw, tense, and exciting. By making the blues fresh again, he's bridging a generation gap and quickly earning respect from musicians and fans on both sides of the divide."
- Robin Schroffel, Edmonton Sun, CAN....................................................................................................................
"Hearing (Rault's) take on bluesy, garage rock makes me wonder how so many people are missing the boat." - Hero Hill Blog, CAN....................................................................................................................
“Rault and his cohorts produce a great basic garage sound which all garage heads worthy of their salt should check out. They are clearly worthy of a label signing and deserve to have their songs more widely heard.”
- Paul Martin, Shindig Magazine, UK....................................................................................................................
“Performs with the raw intensity simply lacking across the board in straight-up rock these days” -Zoltan Varadi, Edmonton Journal, CAN...................................................................................................................
“Michael and his band are re-injecting venom into the kind of rock ‘n’ roll music that was a threat in his grandparents’ day”
– Robin Schroffel, Edmonton Sun, CAN................................................................................................................
“The Cramps meets Screamin’ Jay Hawkins”
– Razorcake Magazine, USA...................................................................................................................
“The local teen is an old school rock ‘n’ roll dynamo”
– Sandra Sperounes, Edmonton Journal, CAN..................................................................................................................
"Sounds like: particularly louche early rock blaring out of transistor radios riding skateboards"
- Mary Christa O'Keefe, Vue Weekly,

“Michael Rault - CRASH! BOOM! BANG!” spent 9 weeks on the Earshot Canadian national campus radio charts, peaking at 6, hit 30 for Earshot’s top 200 of October, and hit 8 for Earshot’s top 200 of November.
“CRASH! BOOM! BANG!” spent 10 weeks on CKUAs top 30, peaking at 4, and was 19 on their top 100 of 2008.
Michael Rault got his start in music playing in local Edmonton punk bands while simultaneously falling in as a guitar player with the Rault Brothers Band alongside his Dad and Uncle, Lionel and Ron Rault. After starting his own band, “Michael Rault and the Mixed Signals”, and recording three independent EPs under that moniker over the three years that the group was active, Rault ventured out on his own with a rootsier solo project. Armed only with his guitar, amp, and a tambourine which he tapes to his foot, Rault creates a unique, minimalist blend of garage, roots, rock and roll and blues. On his new album - “CRASH! BOOM! BANG!” – Rault’s solo is augmented by tons of percussion, tic-y tac sixties esq electric bass, harmonica (Rusty Reed), the occasional upright bass (Don Marcotte), some kit drumming (Robbie Szabo) and gronky flourishes from an old 1950’s Hammond M-3 household organ (Rene G.W. Lemieux). It’s a new take on traditional music, using retro soundscapes applied to the eternally interesting roots of North American music.
