Life is the greatest influence for music. Dylan, The Beach Boys, Bryds, Rush, Third World, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Doobie Bros., Fleetwood Mac, Cream, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Allman Bros., Steely Dan, Christopher Cross, Pat Metheny, The Turtles, The Doors, and many more. I like jazz and rock, reggae and blues, country, bluegrass, folk and classical, alternative, pop, world, techno and songs without genre. Good music is good music, some of the best music I've heard has been by folks you've never heard. Spontaneous, in the moment, jaaaams!
I lived on the island of Maui from 1974-1986. I now live there again. The island lifestyle and it's music influence the way I find melodies for songs.

A very wise old Shaman once told me,
"If you want to find the music, you must look in places where it lives. It's the rhythm of the waves, it's the trade winds blowing through the trees, it's the river flowing to the sea. Stop and listen, it will show itself to you. This is the music of your heart."
We are all in this together. We all need each other to make life work. I play music for the pure love of it.
The songs happen on different levels. Some songs are from ideas or concepts, while other songs are born out of life's experiences. The songs I enjoy most are the songs that feel like they have always been here, the timeless ones, melodies that feel hauntingly familiar from the moment of conception.
I was a Wilderness Ranger and Fire Fighter for the Forest Service for a number of years. I just quit my cool job and moved back to the island of Maui. Living in the Islands is sweet.
Keep respecting all forms of life, especially the children, each other, and all that belongs to the earth. Wilderness, wildlife and our natural resourses must be preserved, it is the spirit of true freedom.
