FEAR FACTORY -- greatest metal band in the history of all metal. If you disagree, please listen to "Demanufacture" until you get your shit on straight. I also still have deep love for 80s thrash: Slayer's "Reign in Blood" is a favorite, Metallica's "Ride the Lightning," Anthrax's "Among the Living," all of the standards. Hip hop: Ice Cube (specifically "Death Certificate," my personal all-time fave), Bloodhound Gang, DMX, MC Lars, Public Enemy, early Beastie Boys, etc. New metal: System of a Down (brilliant), Rob Zombie, Linkin Park (fuck off, I like 'em) | | Movies | The five best movies of all time are, in no particular order: Conan the Barbarian, RoboCop, The Big Lebowski and The Road Warrior. Yes, I know that's only four. The fifth will be the first feature I direct, and all features I direct thereafter. Also, watch An Inconvenient Truth. Immediately. I don't think it's hyperbole to say it's probably one of the most important movies made in our lifetimes. It's not a political movie. It's a necessary movie. See it. Right now. | | Television | BSG. Weeds. Shield. Tom Goes to the Mayor. Sealab 2021 (first two seasons). Tim&Eric. So much good shit on TV these days it's hard to list. | | Books | I live by the bushido ideals described in "Hagakure," by Yamamoto Tsunetomo. Also: "The Book of Five Rings," by Miyamoto Musashi. I read a few pages every morning. The most incredible novel I've ever read is "The Master and Margarita," by Mikhail Bulgakov, followed closely by "A Confederacy of Dunces." Also: "The Prince," "The Art of War," "The 33 Strategies of War," King's "On Writing," tons of others... I'm constantly reading. |
