In a land where pestilence, greed, insecurity, hatred, and death seems to prevail in any case, the question is often asked “where is the relief for us?”
God has called for a holy nation. One that would rise up from the ashes and proclaim the good news, that Jesus is alive and recruiting for His righteous army. Therefore it should catch none by surprise that this ex-soldier would raise his hand in oath to our Lord. That he would carry on the torch.
Michael was born on March 15, 1982 in Cleveland, OH. His neighborhood was pretty on the outside to a young innocent boy, but as he graduated and moved up in the ranks of life, the scales would slowly peel away and things would appear as it really is. In 1994 Michael joined an organization called BOE(Beat On Everybody) which was supported by a city gang called Folks. This was a trying time for him because he had to portray someone he wasn’t just to stay alive. Music at this point was not an option, but ministry was always in the back of his head. In 1995 Michael then began selling drugs, and stealing from any and everybody. But little did he know that this would be the year that his anointing would show its face.
After attending school one Friday evening Michael said goodbye to his best friend Daneisia Webb. Ignorant to what had transpired over the weekend he eagerly rushed off to school Monday morning only to find out that his buddy was killed in an act of gang violence. Shortly after death seemed to be encamping around his inner circle. Violence in the schools, in the homes, and in the streets claimed the lives of many teenagers. In the summer of 1995 Michael would get his turn at experiencing violence. After an altercation, Michael was stabbed in his back just inches away from a main artery that could have cost his life. After this his parents said enough is enough and they moved to MD. After meeting his best friend Kyla Simone and her cousin Terrell Hunt the music inside of him would then began to blossom and be heard to many.
In 1996 Michael would enter his first musical competition, The DC Future Fest Singing Competition. This competition had three phases. With over 150 contestants stretching from DC to VA, this competition would prove to be important in one’s career. Michael took 1st place. In May of 1996 Michael would then join a local performance group called Youth in Praise under the direction of Mark Joyeux. This relationship would prove to be more than just artist to manager but more like son to father. In 1998 Michael was asked to sing at a vigil paying respects to those who died to domestic violence (a case that was all too familiar to Michael).
In 2003 Michael would then raise his hand to Uncle Sam and join the United States Army. He spent two years out of a three year contract in Iraq and that is where he can honestly say he met Jesus.
In 2005 Michael would then get the wonderful opportunity to become one of the ministers of the Baumholder Gospel Service under the leadership of CH Artie Maxwell. In Feb 2007 Michael would get a word from the Lord that it was time to come out of the military and go into full time ministry. Today Michael is the minister of music at Fellowship Baptist Church under the divine leadership of Rev Edward Jones. He is currently working on his debut album entitled “The Conversation”. He is a father of two little girls. He is a friend to many, a voice to a nation but a servant of the Lord.
