I am one of nine children, one up from the youngest. That alone can give you some idea of how many peanut butter and jelly sandwiches my family went through. A
lot of my existence as a child (besides the usual) was piano, singing, being a magician and The Planet Of The Apes. My brother and I actually made a super 8 movie
depicting a scene from the movie. Our Mom let us use her brown winter gloves along with a store bought ape mask.
Music has always been in my family at some time or another. My Grandfather Murphy was in the music bizz in New York. He had his own radio hour and even did some recording. That is him singing on the hidden track on The Beloved Few debut CD. Ooops! It's no secret now. It's also him in the photo from the CD with The Babe standing next to him pretending to play trumpet. Yes, the real Babe Ruth! The photo was taken at The Russian Tea Room
in New York city. Hidden Track (Real Audio)
I started taking piano lessons at 8 years old. At 11 years old, I ended up onstage for my BIG debut at the Waltham Library rocking out "Frere Jacques." Offers poured in
after that. Pinned, poised, performing and pondering at the same
time.
In the 1980's I hooked up with a local producer/studio owner named Mitch Bennoff. The studio was the now defunct, Downtown Recorders." I recorded many of my songs with Mitch and recorded many tracks with many
different musicians as guest players.
At this time I had entered several songs of my own in some national contests and won! I placed first in the Billboard Magazine Song Festival with my song "Kayleigh." A young drummer named David Stefanelli played on it.
I continued to work playing piano bar and writing and recording. A lot of local and national radio and TV voiceover spots were offered to me at this time which meant money and some recognition so I took 'em all. From "Chevy of America" to "The Mall Of New
Hampshire" with Burgess Meredith.
In my early teen years I was a radio addict like everyone else but I was effected more by music than your usual kid. With all my older siblings in front of me, I was exposed to quite a bit of cool music before my time. This was about the time I heard two artists that would end up molding me into what I have become today as far as my musical styles go. These two very important artists were Elton John
and Billy Joel. 1989: I continued to work with different people in the studios of Boston. I worked with both Keith Diamond of Billy Ocean fame and Greg Hawkes and Ben Orr of The Cars. Actually, Ben recorded a song of mine called "Right Across The River." At this point several other songs that I co wrote with other artists were used on such TV shows as Melrose Place, Pacific Heights and The Young And The Restless.
The 90's were spent working and writing and then forming The Beloved Few with David. We've got lots of plans for more recordings/films radio show from our site. I also did a solo EP called Someday we'll all be laughing.
Also these days I do a duo with the extraordinary drummer Craig Tramack.Graig and I also did a year tour with Whoopie Goldberg & Dave Brown (of Billy Joels Band) where I was musical director. I also have a kicking trio I do with him and the highly talented singer/guitarist Jeff Fraser called Retro factor. As well as a 6 piece Wedding band With Ralph Vetrullo and Fraser Called Men In Black.
I have kind of lived my life in the key of F with a corrected fifth...and that's just the verse......
I can't wait for the chorus.
