Born in South Carolina, Michelle Alden was raised in East Lyme, Connecticut. The melodic sound that is uniquely Michelle’s is attributed to a childhood in which she was surrounded by music. From singing and dancing around the house to performing a cappella arrangements with her two sisters, Michelle has found that music has been a part of every stage of her life. She participated in musicals such as My Fair Lady and Company in high school before beginning to branch out on her own. Gifted at guitar, she began playing when she was 14 years old, however it wasn’t until she left for college that she discovered her talent as a singer/songwriter. Since beginning at New York University, where she studies not only music but also Spanish and politics, Michelle hasn’t been able to stop writing original lyrics and melodies. Michelle performs regularly at the Starbucks located on the NYU campus, taking full advantage of, and adding to, the cultural landscape of the university. She cites Jewel, india.arie, and Janis Joplin as strong and powerful influences. A brilliant musician and student, Michelle Alden is surely going to follow in the footsteps of her idols, and will be the brightest star among the new generation of female musicians.
