She's a rare find in country music today; a voice full of emotion, resonating lyrics, and a face you won't forget. Earning respect from peers and industry people alike, Michelle has built a reputation among Nashville songwriters and audiences of unswerving dedication and enthusiasm for her music.
Michelle made the move from California to Nashville in 2002. Finishing school was every bit as important as singing, and she completed a degree in Music Business from Middle Tennessee State University in May 2005. Interning in the music industry has taught her some important lessons. 'I've learned that the industry changes every day. It's a risky business to be in, but if you love it and have a passion for it, it's worth all the risk in the world.' Since graduating from MTSU, Michelle is focusing on her songwriting and guitar playing. 'It's a blessing to be able to sing, though I also feel writing and playing guitar allows others to see your creative side. Everyone has a story to tell, so why not share it with the world''
And Michelle has an extraordinary story to tell. Since she was very young, Michelle has worn a prosthetic leg and battled through a significant physical disability to find success as an athlete, a model, and now a singer/songwriter. As much as her prosthesis is a part of her everyday life, it's something she doesn't allow herself to dwell on. 'My leg has made me a very strong person. I've gone through a lot of hard times, but a lot of good times. They've allowed me to grow and kept me grounded while giving me a different attitude in life. There are a lot of people I say to hell with, those who stare and point, but I thank the people who've never treated me any differently, especially my parents and friends.' The greatest message she can ever send with her music is that other amputees can achieve any dream or goal as long as they have the drive and determination. Michelle acknowledges that it hasn't been easy, but then it's the hardest parts that have helped her get to this point in her career.
As she meets the challenges an aspiring artist faces every day, she relies on a quote she's been repeating to herself since she decided on her dream. ''You must be the change you wish to see in the world." Since the day a friend told me those words from Ghandi, they've been a constant reminder that there's a reason God gave me this opportunity to inspire, be inspired, and make myself an example of success over adversity.
I'm so bummed! I'm going to be out of town on the 12th. So, I won't be able to make the big benefit gig in Franklin. :-( Thanks so much for sending me the event notice, though. And keep me informed of other ones as they come up. Hopefully I'll be in town for the next one!
Hope you have a great gig and raise lots of money/awareness! :-)
Thanks for adding Rambles. NET to your friends' list!
