Disappointing lovers ... and Dave Hines's 4 stringed banjo
Singer/ Songwriter/Performer,
Soulful grooves with a funk flavour flirting shyly with jazz. Vocally beguiling with dulcet tones that traverse the sensual and the wistful. Lyrically candid, Michelle's songs explore the follies of humanity with tenderness and wit. Sexy bass lines, a grooving backbeat and striking melodies accompany lush chord progessions........................................................
Previously performed at venues such as Paris Cat, Manchester Lane, Bar Open, Wesley Anne, Revolver, The Old Bar, Clifton Hill Hotel ................................................... ...................................................................................................................................
Word on the street.........
“Destined as surely for stardom as any artist I’ve heard this year.”
Tony McMahon, Inpress......................
"Hines' debut proves a curiously diverse effort, with the thick band arrangements dancing freely between throaty soul, poppy folk and ambient music. The result, a strikingly rounded effort that effortlessly blend genre in a fashion that harks back to an older style of song writing" Adam Baidawi, Beat..........................................................................................
“… she opened her mouth and these exquisite dulcet tones emanated. The room fell silent. I think I heard a man in a restaurant down the road order gorgonzola sauce for his pumpkin gnocchi.” Arts Hub...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Inpress CD Launch Review:
"The intimate surrounds of The Paris Cat are packed to bursting for the launch of Michelle Hines debut album I Almost Forgot. Apart from the lack of smoke, in fact, one can close one’s eyes and easily imagine one is in the streets of that titular European metropolis. Hines chats amiably with the punters before grabbing her guitar and taking the stage with a swagger that is never arrogant and launches into the first number of her set with both an abandon and a practised surety that belies her status as an ‘emerging’ artist. From note one, it is evident to me that she is more destined for stardom than just about any other act I have seen this year: her soft, honeyed voice that veers occasionally into a sexy timbre and masterful strumming combines with her skilful songwriting to produce a whole that is way more than the sum of its parts. To say I am impressed is an understatement up there with ‘invading Poland was a bad idea’.
The sublime Japanese Flowered Fabric is, without doubt, the highlight in a set packed full of them. ‘If only you could see me in this dress/subtly designed for your regret’ – and this goes to the heart of what it is I love about Hines as a songwriter. Somehow, she manages the enviable feat of weaving a simple tale of a new dress into a universally heartbreaking paean to recently lost love. No small feat at all.
Talking to a punter outside, she tells me she is a friend of Michelle’s and this night is something akin to her wedding. I feel honoured to have been invited and would like to take this opportunity to wish her all the best for her future happiness and success. There are certain couples one knows will survive and those where it’s obvious they won’t. At the risk of extending the musical career as marriage metaphor a little too far, I have a very good feeling about Michelle Hines and what the future holds for her. A very good feeling indeed.".........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Once again I have a favour to ask of everyone out there in the MySpace world, and I’m sorry because I know these things can get a bit annoying, but every vote counts, and I am happy to return the favour if you need me to vote or rate anything of yours, so… if you get the chance could you please rate my new song “Million Miles Away” on Triple J Unearthed?
