Get to know Michelle & Melissa!

"Such a warm and unique voice! A little post modern Billie Holiday with a hint of Joni Mitchell. The tracks are tasty but lean and they give her just the right amount of space to let that shine through..." —Matraca Berg, Songwriters Hall of Fame

Macedo is one of those rare female musicians whose music has the ability to define a season. Live performances by Michelle and her twin sister Melissa's band have transfixed audiences from Boston to Los Angeles so much so that Deli Magazine named Macedo as one of the city's 100 most popular. Maria Menounos, co-host of Extra and correspondent for The Today Show, listed the band as her favorite. Michelle's songwriting has been honored at the Malibu Music Awards and her songs broadcast on a myriad of key radio stations, such as Star 98.7, Delta Airlines and online through Yahoo Music and Pandora.

All this while Michelle's debut album La Luna, produced by Boston's OutTake Records, steadily attracts more and more passionate admirers since its release five years ago. Born and raised in Pasadena, California, a performer with Melissa since they were old enough to stand, Michelle not only started La Luna while enrolled at Emerson College, but also co-founded its Random Arts Delegation, featuring assorted notable performing artists. She also found time to perform with Southern California's activist {AMAR} Collective and to compose scores for the independent film As They Fade, directed by Jenna Lyng, and a television pilot called Age Appropriate, which she also starred in, that was nominate for "Best Pilot" at the Independent Television Festival in Los Angeles. All this while pursuing (and eventually catching!) her BFA in acting.

Melissa, meanwhile, devoted a summer to study music in Argentina. Stateside, she worked toward her own BA at Columbia University's Barnard College in New York City. While attending, she performed Off Broadway, playing the title character in the New York premiere of After Miss Julie adapted by Patrick Marber in which she played Miss Julie. She also starred in Bertolt Brecht's St. Joan of the Stockyards she performed a song composed specifically for her by Jason Hart.

When paired together though, they've found the most success. They wrote and performed a song for the upcoming film Serial Buddies, starring Christopher Lloyd, Kathie Lee Gifford, Artie Lange and narrated by Henry Winkler, and most recently they co-host shows for AfterBuzz TV, the largest new media platform on the web that does after-shows for fans' favorite TV shows. Their American Idol edition was downloaded by hundreds of thousands of people each week.

Their latest venture is the commercial release of Michelle's fully re-mastered second album Flags & Boxes, in which Melissa provides vocals to Michelle and the incredible array of instruments create a uniqueness that can only be called Macedo. The album Flags & Boxes was produced by talented film composer Kush Mody (Serial Buddies) and engineered by the talented Nils Montan and Andrew Oedel. The album was mixed by Justin Gerrish (MGMT, Vampire Weekend), mastered by Fred Kevorkian (Regina Spektor), re-mastered by Randy Sharpe (Dixie Chicks), and the Caught Radio Edit was produced by Khris Kallow and MJ Denton. As part of the release, fans look forward to the new radio edit of Macedo's hit single "Caught".

In speaking about the album, Michelle says, "My life thus far has been about learning to claim my space without apology. I've always been in the grey and never as I seem. Being biracial, I feel out of place no matter where I am; I feel like I'm lost in translation. I strive in my songs to emotionally confront myself in a very honest way; this album is about allowing myself to feel what I am. I've spent my whole life being trapped in a box and silenced. This album is me finally raising my voice, my unapologetic voice."

It should surprise no one that the album has been pronounced a virtual certainty to propel Michelle into the first rank of modern female singers and songwriters, and Macedo, the group that she and Melissa so capably lead, to the top of playlists the world over.
