About me: I write books, and host readings for other people who write books, to be listened to by people who like reading books. My last novel is called Rose of No Man's Land and is about a teenage genderqueer loner who gets mixed up with a speed freak mall rat and falls in love. Or something. My last anthology is called It's So You and it's full of essays by stylish people about how they came to look so great, such as Eileen Myles, Kim Gordon, Jenny Shimizu, Kate Bornstein, Ali Liebegott, Tara Jepsen, Beth Lisick and other modern role models. I run the Radar Reading + Salon series in San Francisco, and every so often pile a bunch of bitches in a van and set off across the country under the guise of Sister Spit: The Next Generation. Billed as an all-girl spoken word road show, it's truly an excuse to sing karaoke at dive bars across America. We hit the road April 2009! Make friends with RADAR and Sister Spit, why don't you.
Who I'd like to meet: Writers. Oversharers. Clowns. Acrobats. Daredevils. Hitchikers. Fellow Aquarians. Friends of Bill W. Zen failures. Naive idealists. Bakers of cookies. Psychics.
Michelle! This is kinda funny. Im sorry im not done with your interview yet but its gonna be on radio in stockholm soon. Youre actually in one of the teasers i made for it! hope youre good! stockholm? when? xo alva
Did I hear you right last night? Did you say you have a Bottega Veneta purse?! Swoon! So good to hear you read and I'm looking forward to seeing you again in August. Happy travels!
Aaaagh! Your profile info has me craving cookies now like nobody's biz, Michelle! ♥
"JSYK," I found out about your reading with Shira at Hustler Hlywd, & had a little surprise to bring with me (& other sappy gifts as such...INCLUDING a chapbook of yours I found that was I assume was overlooked in the quest to gather them for The Beautiful. I say this, as I know full well I would have remembered a saddle-stitched and photocopied labor of love dedicated to a certain 'Matt' on Sycamore Street.
Ya naw mean? ;p
Nonetheless, I'm guessing/hoping (?) you noted my absence. As one who recently had his heart smashed onto the glistening tar of this harsh city (a few days before my birthday, incidentally--scenester dude is totes the cheap ass except in matters of his own "unnatural" beauty...Nothing but MAC & Make Up Forever for the daily photo shoots oft taken by himself, coupled with the highest-end hair extensions as a means to promote his "image"...image for what I'm still unsure of to this day!)
Wow. That was a pretty intense parenthetical there, huh?
Lemme try again:
Since this year I've come to terms with the fact I write almost exclusively by deadline--dates on projects which, incidentally, the general public has to means by which to access at this point?
Signed my effin' ass up for a weekly group @ UCLA with a minimum # of pages due per week, critiques of other's works--you know, the usesh...except for the instructor, who's hellasswadsomekindawonderful. Not just really...but REALLY.)
Difference is: I'm determined to craft a 3-act feature film rather than the 5-act T.V. structure which also happens to be about...oh, about half the final page count.
I mean, in today's celebrity-driven climate where even "leaking" porn (OOPS! Didn't mean to hit that bright red button
