   About The Mother
Thanks for passing by. Welcome to the page of: Michelle 'Mother' Hubbard The Original Irish-Jamaican Lyricist! Irish-Jamaican book OUT NOW... As featured in 'The New Nation' and 'The Irish Post' - Nottingham based, English raised, Jamaican-Irish bred! This book is an exploration of Irish connection via the cultural blend of the established performance poet Michelle ‘The Mother’ Hubbard. A rich diverse cultural mix explored and examined through a selection of purpose written poems that are thought provoking, probing, and questioning; with a light hearted twist and dash of good humorous. Rejecting the terms mixed-race, dual-heritage, and bi-racial for a term more accurate and reflective; Michelle brings you her genetic ancestral celebration: ‘The Irish-Jamaican’ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michelle Hubbard, known on the performance poetry scene as "The Mother": 'The Mother' is a freelance performance artist and consultant (Performance Poet, Storyteller, African Drummer, workshop facilitator & closet comedien) based in Nottingham. Regularly working in a variety of settings including schools, community centres, youth clubs, and prisons. Regularly performing at community festivals, cafe bars, theatres, community venues, libraries and on the open mic circuit around the UK. A founder member of BLACKDROP! (Open mic/spoken word performance event held every 1st Monday of each month at The Canal House Bar, Nottingham, Doors: 7.30pm Start: 8pm Entry: $2 - Arrive early to sign up if you want to perform - poetry, rapping, story telling, M.C.ing - must be original material) . Michelle's poetry has been published in various anthologies and publications. Previous book 'The Tapestery Of A Black Woman' - limited copies still available. Send message for details. Pay-Pal service. 'Mother' has performed alongside Benjamin Zephaniah, Patience Agbabi, Michelle Scally-Clarke, Phenzwaan, Martin Glynn, shortMAN, Spicyfingers, Louise Ashley, Dave Stickman Higgins, Lisa MonoLisa Jackson, David J, Carol Leeming, Spicyfingers, Steve Carol, Rob Gee, Mark Gwyn Jones, Best Kept Secret, The World Slam Champions ... and many many more (and a growing number of 'myspace' people)! Second Place, NOTTM POETRY SOCIETY Performance Competition 26th May 2007 ________________________________________________________________ THE ORIGINAL IRISH-JAMAICAN! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you to the many spirits I come into contact with that enrich my life through the spoken word. A poet without lyrics is a tree without roots. water them daily! Point the pen, not the gun! Stay blessed. SEND ME A MESSAGE TO BOOK A PERFORMANCE/WORKSHOP/READING !

Yeah, I'm just back. I don't know the earthquake region well but it is one of the most mountainous and hard to get to places. I only have one good friend there and she seems ok.

I'm only just back so still on Chinese time, but I'm cool.

Hope you are well and poeting fine.

Peace.
