MICHIRU/Composer
MICHIRU was born in Japan in 1980. She started playing the piano at an early age by first echoing natural sounds and chirping birds.
She enrolled at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music where she majored in musical composition. She initially studied the fundamentals of classical music; but her interest was not exclusively encompassed to this genre. Michiru later began to look into various other genres of music, like pop-music, electronic-music, folk-music, Jazz, rock, and contemporary music. They were endlessly interesting to her mind as she progressively began to change and improve her capability of expression.

She graduated at the top of her class, and her first orchestral work “Music for orchestra” was performed in 2004. She proceeded to continue her studies by entering the Graduate School of the University. In 2005, one of her works “Six Turkish Folk Music” was performed by “Ensemble NOMAD” , a foremost authority of contemporary music in Japan.

In 2006,she took her master's degree in composition and later went on to organize her first concert “From Ear To Ear vol.1”. The concert was held in a unique way in that she created surround-sound space by using many speakers and darkened the hall to enhance the surround-sound effect. She produced the concert and performed her own works.

From 2007, she has been working as a composer and her activities have grown to encompass every category of music. In 2009, She composed and managed the music for “Lulie the Iceberg“ at Y150 -the Exposition Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Opening of the Port of Yokohama.

In 2009,she released her debut album "World's End Village" in Japan. In this album, she made mainly vocal pieces inspired from various female voices, they notably display her originality.

Forward she continues to make works across borders of genre with various artists. She is expected to have worldwide creation.

Q: What is special about the album?
A: All pieces on this album are distinct from existing popular music.The world of my music, which is detailed and heavy, will never bore you, and will keep fascinating you.But it is different from so-called 'contemporary music' which is acclaimed as "avant-garde".I always care about popular touch, while placing my music on the edge og what will be accepted by people. In other words, I dare challenge the border line between popular music and being avant-garde. That's the identity of my music. You may like to call it the exquisitely-constructed 'Popular music'


Q: Why listeners must hear it?
A: 4 female vocalists have performed in this album: Julia Marcell,a shrewd artist from Poland, Ayu Okakita, a skilled singer from London,Saho Terao, a brilliant singer-songwriter and Mariko Otsuka, a promised young vocalist from Tokyo.
I made the music so that to draw out their voice's appeal.These pieces have turned out to be far away from everyday matters, though they hold the sense of sceneries of old times.Through MICHIRU's music, you will know the "WORLD'S END VILLAGE" that is both long-forgotten and new, which is in everyone's heart.


Q: What are the ideas and feelings?
A: That's the 'female voice'.The 4 vocalists possess wonderful voices, air, and sense of rhythm. I got clear images from their voices that how they should sing, or vocalize. Their voices themselves also gave quite a few ideas to my music.


Q: What do you say about your album? What is your idea about the album?
A: I'll be happy if you release your inspirations and take pleaser in this sound of world I created.Would you like to experience these sound-sceneries with me, which you haven't met before though it has always been there since long time ago?

未知瑠 -MICHIRU-　
1980年、日本、兵庫県に生まれる。
幼少より周囲の自然や鳥の声などを真似て、ピアノを弾き、遊ぶ。
東京芸術大学音楽学部時代には、クラシック音楽をルーツとしながらも、その世界にとどまらないジャンルの垣根を越えた音楽を希求し、ポップ 、エレクトロ、民族音楽、Jazz、Rock、現代音楽…、様々な要素が彼女自身の音楽へ吸収と変容を始める。
04年、同大学を首席にて卒業。初のオーケストラ作品 『Musicfor orchestra 2004』が初演される。05年には「アンサンブルNOMAD」により『トルコ民族音楽による6つの小品 for Ensemble NOMAD』を発表。06年、同大学院を修了。5.1chサラウンドシステムを用いた作品『Music Concertante -for string quartet and surround sounds』を発表。07年以降、多様なジャンルへ創作活動を広げている。09年には、横浜開港博Y150に於いてパビリオン『氷山ルリの大航海』音楽を担当。
2010年、ソロアーティスト『Michiru』として1stアルバムを、スウェーデンのFluttery Recordsよりヨーロッパ,アメリカ圏でリリースする。
それに伴い、日本での先行リリースが決定。2009年12月5日、未知瑠1st アルアム『Worls’s End Village –世界の果ての村-』発売。
このアルバムには、主に女性ボイスからインスピレーションを得た作品を中心に、様々な女性ボーカリストをフィーチャーし、レコーディングを行う。極上のポップスを奏でる寺尾紗穂、ポーランドから来日したヨーロッパで気鋭のソングラ イターJulia Marcell、London で活躍する日本人アーティスト岡北有由、等、様々なシンガー達が参加している。
今後、映像音楽,メディア音楽から歌物まで、様々なジャンルを横断的に、国境を越えて創作活動を続けていく。
