On December 8, 2009, Vitello’s in Studio City, had the honor of hosting Michelly’s CD release party and first show after returning from the Jazz Promenade Maastricht, in the Netherlands. Michelly performed with a 6 piece band to a warm and receptive crowd. Michelly’s performance was moving, charming and full of swing! The MC for the night was the wonderful Lady K, band members included;
Vern Waldron – Piano
Nick Mancini – Vibes
Richie Onorie – Drums
John Schroeder – Guitar
Glenn Brooks – Bass
David Urquidi – Sax
Michelly has just completed her debut CD entitled Midnight Lounge. This musical gem is filled with great jazz and blues tunes as only Michelly can do. Midnight Lounge contains 12 Sassy & Soulful jazz tunes, some well known songs made popular by greats such as Bobby Darin, and Peggy Lee, and a few jazz classics written by Cole Porter, Dizzy Gillespie, and Frank Sinatra, plus 3 original songs co-written by Michelly and Vern Waldron.
2009 started out great for Michelly and things are only getting better. In March she had a well received show at Eagle Rock’s jazz spot, Colombo’s. This was followed by a packed house at the Hollywood Studio bar & grill. To add 1 more item to her list of accomplishments, May marked the theatrical debut of this rising star of the jazz world. Michelly played a French singer in the production of “Modigliani”, set in 1916 Paris. Michelly just completed production on her long awaited debut CD entitled Midnight Lounge, which will is available NOW on CDbaby.com
Michelly just returned from the Netherlands where she played a packed house every night in Holland’s Jazz Promenade in Maastricht. She will be back next year to tour the Netherlands, Belgium and other parts of Europe and the UK.
Michelly’s vocal style is reminiscent of the great jazz legends from the 40’s and 50’s, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holliday. What you will find unique about Michelly is way she arranges each song with charm and sophistication, it truly is a style all her own.
Michelly has appeared on stage with countless well know jazz musicians, among them are Karen Hernandez, Jack Le Comp, Steve Rawlins, Dini Clark, Rose Gayles and a variety of other musical geniuses of the LA jazz scene. She has performed at many well know jazz spots all over Los Angeles; in Historic Leimert Park, at the World Stage, in Hollywood, at the Vermont, in Pasadena, at the Holly St Bar & Grill and in West Hollywood, at the Ten20. These are just a few of the venues that have heard the style and sophistication that comes out of every note Michelly sings.
Michelly has been described as “a dynamo of song”, “spirited and full of charm”, “a jazz vocalist with old world style”, anyway you choose to describe her, it is Michelly’s unforgettable voice that will linger in your mind.
