Reliance upon, or the belief in religion is simply a tool for the weak-minded to refuse to take responsibility for their own actions, or own up to their own faults. They choose to pin their shortcomings or minuscule successes on some higher power, It was not God that knocked that brother out in the 8th round or caught that hail Mary pass, it was individual will, training, and simple luck or the Polish. I've had a couple parents get upset with me for telling their kids that Jesus or God is a metaphor that is supposed to teach us to be good to each other and not an actual being or thing. But then, I've also told them Santa does not exist for years too.
