   About Mick West
Mick West is regarded as one of Scotland's finest interpreters of traditional song. Together with his band, they have been described as a must for any fan of Scottish song. The current line up of the band are Fraser Fifield (sax, whistles and percussion), Stevie Lawrence (Bouzouki) Frank McLaughlin (Guitar) and new addition to the band Ali Hutton (Pipes, whistles, bodhran, guitar). On hearing the latest album "A poor man's labour", the U.S. folk magazine Dirty linen stated "Why is this man not a household name?"

Mick and the band recently performed live at the BBC in Glasgow. Video footage of the gig can be found on the bbc website by following these links

Hey there,

Here's one from left field...

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?

A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:

Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella

Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.

Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.

I encourage all to visit the YouTube page to learn more (Show support! Rate! Comment!) and responsibly circulate as widely as possible, here:

Help to raise awareness.

Say have you checked out my web site recently?

Take care and keep in touch.

Best,
Faber.

he visto tantos dolores
penurias y sinsabores
como sucede en la guerra
y esta dolencia me aterra
me consume el corazón
sobrepasa mi razón
ver que la sola pobreza
con admirable certeza
sigue sembrando el dolor

Yo no tengo la solución
a tanta desesperanza
mas yo hago mi labranza
con mi canto y mi canción
con esta meditación
sobre el dolor de mi gente
quiero dejar un presente
que sirva como consuelo
como venido del cielo
para todos los presentes.

Mick West my cherished:
Since 1988, when I visited Britain and Ireland I've been beguiled by the Celtic music which has sprung from that region. Your awesome music does remind me of my journey to Peterhead, and then by car to John O'Groats, on a ferryboat to and back from the Orkney Islands, then down to Glasgow and flew to Dublin.
All the way long, radio-stations played Makem & Clancy, Chris Ball, Dubliners, Inna Miller and Foster & Allen lovely songs. Your own voice is rather similar to Liam Clancy's and must I say "I was a young man" and "Twas a for our rightfu king" are my best-loved numbers out of your so fine repertoire. Knowing my music also bears a common ancestral root, I mean those of African, Irish and British origin, I'd be glad if you could also listen to my simple provincial tunes and send me any desirable comments.
Please, accept a fraternal musical embrace from your Brazilian admirer, ever,

Taquinho Noronha
