I was exposed to the wonderful thing that is music at a relatively early age. I grew up and still live in Manteca, CA and was fortunate enough to be born to parents who allowed me the room to explore whatever I really wanted to providing that it didn't hurt me or anyone else. Music was certainly included in this category and, in fact was quite encouraged. Whether it be listening to artists like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison and many others; or getting together with friends and playing many covers of the artists listed above (as well as originals), my folks were always sure to include my siblings and me in whatever they were up to. Furthermore, they were always sure to get things right, which is to say, for my purposes here, that music starts in the living room and isn't about stadiums, ticket sales, or the ever tantalizing "showmanship." It's about the living room, the coffee shop, and the guy on the corner playing for free because he loves what he does. Communicating a feeling to someone else through something you love is the greatest talent that human beings possess, for without it we would surely live in a boring and abysmally lonely world. Thank you for listening to what I have to say, and thank you truly if you truly hear it.
I am doing all right considering. I still can't find a job. No one seems to want to hire me. and there isn't many places hiring at all. I keep trying though. I don't even have a stable place to stay. I bounce back and forth from Joel's and Sky's apartment. I go to Sky's when Joel has his girls. I honestly just feel like a burden to everyone. Skye and I have just been doing a lot of planning for Portland. She has enough money to take us now, but I would like to have contributed to the move, and we'd like to have more. We have a budget plan and everything. It's very much possible to do it. It was cost us collectively 850 a month to live there and together we would make 1400 hundred with us making $8.00 an hour. Our biggest problem is getting up there. It's quite expensive and would take a big chuck of what we save. We are thinking about doing a rideshare thing.
I am writing a lot though. I just finished a couple songs today. I'm really happy with how they are turning out. They would all just sound better with a band. Luckily Joel has a drummer and Joel also plays bass so it won't be a problem when I want to lay down my tracks. Which will be soon if the writing keeps up.
I'm assuming it was you who left the comment on my status. Yeah Casey set that up for me. It's pretty awesome. I think the album will sell better in digital form and fuck Itunes. Everyone and their mom is on the shit and its not even that great.
I'm really excited about your album! How is it coming along? And how are you?
I'm glad to hear you are immersing yourself in the right states of life. Yes, you will meet her soon. I just moved in a couple days ago. We are recording stuff. I have songs and ideas for an E.P. and then an album. The E.P. is going to be Decemberist like because I am obsessed with them at the moment and some of my songs are coming out that way. but the album I'm going to go for straight up country, or, at lease, my version of it. I'm excited. I just wish I had to to play piano on it. I will send you recordings. and you want them EQ flat and shit so you can mix it yourself! hahaha.
Well, I just went on your page and Clay blasted through my computer speakers. I was then filled with memories of always listening to you playing piano. I am doing well! Finally got Ramona some new strings so she is playing like a champ. Wrote three songs in the past two days. And my friend joel just bought an 8-track recorder. Skye and I are, well, together now. I know its kinda soon. We didn't want anything to happen it just kind of did. But she is great. You'd love her. I talk about you and Sarah all the time. As soon we get some money we want to come visit you two. I told her about the "Ang!" joke. She loves it and is the only one I can do it too and she understands ha.
Yeah I saw that. They are also playing the greek theatre in Los Angeles. Though, I do like the Greek in Berkeley better. The greek down here is too big
You were in my dream last night. It was fucking fantastic. We were recording some new stuff we both wrote together. And I guess kelsie was suppose to be there, but she went to san francisco instead it was funny cause you were making funny faces when you told me she was.
