Midfield High School

I know a lot of the students at Midfield High School remember their English teacher and counselor Maurine Snyder Pihakis. She was a wonderful educator and counselor, she's still teaching a few lessons, by the way. Maurine turned 84 yrs old this year.  She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease 7 years ago.  In August, of 2009 her caregivers Shyrie Holladay, also a counselor at MHS and Sharon Tharp Lemley (MHS employee) felt it best that she have more full time medical attention. She moved into “The Oaks” on Parkwood Road (near 150) in the Orchard complex. She has adjusted well and keeps the staff on their toes. She has always been a woman to speak her mind and still does.  Maurine was married to Jim Pihakis, founder and owner of Jim and Nick's Barbecue, Jim died in Oct. of 2000.   Maurines son, Luckie Snyder, died of lung cancer in 2007, it was very unexpected.

Shyrie and Sharon feel they have been blessed to have Maurine for a friend. She still knows both of us, but cannot call our names, she loves to prop up in the bed and watch old movies. We have lunch with her often.

Take the AL-174 exit, EXIT 154, toward SPRINGVILLE/ODENVILLE.
Turn LEFT onto AL-174/MARIETTA RD.
AL-174/MARIETTA RD becomes MURPHREES VALLEY RD. As you start up the mountain, turn RIGHT onto OAK GROVE RD. Property is 1.7 miles on the left, and there will be signs showing you where to park near the pole barn.

The MHS Class of 85 will be hosting this years 80's Night on Friday, August 13, 2010 @ 6:30 p.m. at Superior Grill on Highway 280. We have reserved the back patio for this event.
