About me:
PrideFest History The first gay pride parade in 1969, known as the March on Stonewall, started as a protest against discrimination and violence against gays in New York City. Today, pride events have become an annual celebration and have grown to include thousands of gay and gay-friendly participants, not to mention hundreds of spectators. Mid-Missouri’s PrideFest is in its 6th year and continues to grow annually. At the first gathering in 2003, approximately 200 people attended what has been described as little more than a big picnic. In 2007, the day-long event attracted over 900 people and many vendors. 2008 tipped the iceburg crossing over the 1,000 mark. What will 2009 bring? Come and find out! Each year there has been change and now we have entertainment, a Pride Caf�, vendors and more. The Mid-Missouri LGBT Coalition hosts PrideFest annually. Admission to the event is free thanks to the generous donations of individuals, sponsors, corporations and vendors. Drop by Stephens Lake Park on June 13, 2009 to see what all the excitement is about. The mission of the Mid-Missouri LGBT Coalition is to unify, inform, support and mobilize Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) individuals, groups and allies in our community through community building, communication, education and advocacy. Monthly board meetings are held the second Thursday of each month in Columbia, Missouri. While this is a Board Meeting, all interested parties are welcome. For more information, call or email. This year we are going all out. For our sponsors, donors and organizing there will be a special Patron's Party on the eve of the festivities. The event will still take place the 2nd Saturday of June (June 13th) at Stephen's Lake Park from 11am-5pm. Following will be The Center Project's Atomic Dance Party at the Blue Note. still new, but we have had such a wonderful response so far. We are
about sharing stories, pictures, giving advice, getting advice, keeping
up on future pride events. Its not just about "us" its about "you"
