Midnight Drive is a rock band that formed (in its present line up) at the beginning of 2008 in Melbourne, Australia. The style of the band represents an eclectic range of influences, but the main focus of the music is melodic rock, with touches of pop and alternative. The members, consisting of 3 girls and 2 guys, all bring a diverse and unique background of experience and influence to the music and image.
Nadia (vocals) is the front girl, using her background in dance to engage and involve the audience. Her vocals are filled with attitude and sassiness, yet she brings a soft, dreamlike quality to the quieter moments of the set. She is the focus of the show and once seen, will not be easily forgotten. Lucy (drums), the barefooted drummer, mergers a motown- style rhythm to an intense, pulsating backbeat that drives the songs. She is the heartbeat of the band, and cannot fail to entertain. Karl (guitar) provides a metal/ rock influence to the tunes that counterbalances the pop stylistics of the band. Anthony (bass) lays the basic foundation, a rock steady, but melodic, groove. His style brings the songs back to their rock roots. And finally, Sash (keyboards/back up vocals), who adds the final layer to the music. She imbues the rock riffs with a sonic texture that brings the tunes to life, whilst also adding her own style of vocal harmonies that complete the songs.
Lyrically, the songs range from the tongue-in-cheek (“Nasty Reputation”) to a darker, more abstract point of view (“Bleeding”, “Down To You”). However, the main focus is on the perpetual motion roller coaster ride known as relationships, and all its aspects. From the angry, reflective lament over a relationship’s end (“Another Day”) to the more hopeful assurance of always being there for those we love (“Whenever”). The songs reach out to the audience, looking for the thread that connects us all.

SUNDAY 12TH APRIL 8PM/$15 (EASTER LONG WEEKEND) Somewhere in France, Laurent Lacroutts and Mathieu Jordan have been locked in their bedrooms since 1991 with albums by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Alice in Chains, and Jane's Addiction set to repeat on their CD players. Whilst The Darkness always pretended to be ironic - even when we knew that deep down inside they desperately wanted to be born about 20 years before they were - these two gents seem to have not one iota of self-awareness, nor any inkling of the musical still-births that grunge spawned. Thus, the opening track of their EP, Mad, veers unintentionally close to Fred Durst territory, Two Days mixes rap-grunge with a Jackson 5 chorus, Do You Make It Right plays like a homage to Aerosmith, and Fuck the Bass Player features guest vocals from Fishbone's Norwood, lamenting the lack of action that playing a four stringed instrument brings. But it’s all quite glorious, and will probably continue to be so as long as this band doesn't make it too big and spoil the joke via over-exposure.
