Sounds Like
Midnight Special have an organic sound, from instruments without a lot of effects. We are trying to put our own stamp on some very old blues and soul recordings.
We use piano / organ, harmonica, guitars through valve amps, bass and drums.
Think back to the British Blues Boom when stars of the future such as The Rolling Stones, John Mayall, The Yardbirds, The Animals were cutting their teeth on Jimmie Rogers, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Sonny Boy Williamson etc. But also think about how Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds have updated the blues and you’ll have some idea.
Also the band are exploring the songs from the time when Rock and Roll and Soul were very young, and it was very hard to separate them, many songs fitting into both genres.
Come down and see us and have some fun!
This is a newish blues / soul / r & b band, playing the Leeds and Bradford circuit.
Leeds music man Mark Hubbard (bass), manager of the now legendary Old Chapel Rehearsal Studios and friend to many approached musical friend Rich Gibson (guitar) with the idea of forming a new blues band.
Mark has played in a number of bands before including: Act Natural, Freud Squad, Ibn Ghazi, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry.
Rich still plays original music in Spring on vocals and guitar, but has also had spells in Bagman etc.
Next up was GD himself on vocals / keyboards / harp who has played in many bands around Yorkshire.
Andy Thornton has joined most recently on drums. Andy also plays in Coaltrain.
