...By winter of 2001 Dave Johnson had written a handful of tunes and Midwestern Lull hit the road. Johnson is the band's lead singer and songwriter, playing guitar and harmonica. Nick Goodman performs on bass and sings harmonies. Toliusis, who mainly plays the drums and sings harmonies, also has a knack for guitar, piano, organ, banjo, accordion and trumpet on the band's recordings. Erik Sebastian rounds things out on lead guitar. Their sound can be described as rootsy folk-rock with jangly guitars and three part harmonies, bringing to mind traces of such musical talents as: Neil Young, Wilco, The Band, and The Jayhawks, among others.
The song "Sunshine" was recorded in the summer of 2003. Doug Paluch, who played lead guitar, recorded and co-produced the song with Toliusis. The song was then mixed and mastered by Kevin Brown at Brown and Brown Recording Studios in Kalamazoo, MI. In the spring of 2004, Midwestern Lull contributed a song entitled "I Think I'm Okay" to the Kalamazoo Compilation, 2004 edition. The quartet are currently working on a full length CD.
