Bio
MiFlos was born in Brighton, England in January of 1980 to a pair of professional ice skaters, immediately placing him in a family of entertainers with a love for creativity and self expression. During his youth his family traveled between Europe and South America experiencing many cultures first hand, ingesting music and art at every turn. At the age of 11 while living in Tampa, FL, his mother purchased his first electric guitar, though it came from a pawn shop, it was given to him in love to promote his interest in music. Over the course of the following years, MiFlos would participate in the school choir, dance team, and school band playing the Alto Saxophone which sent him into a deeper passion for song creation. During his teenage years, his family lived below the poverty level, barely scraping by. MiFlos fell into the wrong type of crowd leading to alcohol and drug use. Neglecting his studies due to heart ache and bad influences he ended dropping out of school and began to work dead end jobs. In 1996 after losing their home and possessions, his family came back to San Francisco to the family home which they left a decade earlier. The west coast had become foreign to him and kept him spinning in a limbo of identity crisis due to his southern upbringing and east coast ties. During this time he became heavily involved in Hip Hop, writing lyrics, buying vinyl records from local record stores and tapes from mom and pop shops to feed his need to expand his creative mind. Soon after, he received his first drum machine and turn table kit, allowing him to move from using instrumentals from other artists as his source for writing to creating his own compositions. Locally he became a producer for his friends and other indie artists who wanted original music. Recording onto a four track recorder, MiFlos produced more the seven full length albums, though unreleased, expressive of his trials and hardships experienced. He found himself writing and producing on a daily basis to keep from falling back into the usual traps which left him depressed and unfulfilled. MiFlos became involved in several rap bands, emerging as a skilled lyricist and emcee at the age of 19 but was content as being a producer, "driving from the back seat" he would state to others. In his early twenties he found himself in love and had his first child, a son named Darius, moving him away from music in order to work and provide for his family while living in Vallejo, CA. This eventually influenced him to join the military, leaving his family and home in the winter of 2003 for basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky. Upon graduation he found himself stationed in South Korea and then Iraq during 2004 for a yearlong tour. After near brushes with death and dealing with the separation from his family, MiFlos began to record and produce music while in the battle fields in order to escape the reality of his own mortality. In 2006 he completed his military obligations and moved back to California with his growing family. Though he was out of the dangers which changed his life in positive and negative ways, he still could not find direly needed peace. Falling back into alcohol use was his way to cope with all he had gone through; trying to forget the horrors he had to endure during his deployment, masking his internal changes from his family, concealing his rage. Music was his voice and now included true passion and a fresh perspective on life, love, and pain. "Sometimes we have to experience the worst of humanity in order to gain the desire to become strong for those who can't defend themselves or see through the darkness of their own tribulations. But this also comes at a price of your own soul if you don't stay focused on what really matters in life" MiFlos often explained to his artists who would find themselves discouraged in their own creative processes. Now at the age of 33, MiFlos has abandoned his desire to be a Hip Hop lyricist as he rediscovered his love for song and the power of being humble to his own heart. This young and talented songwriter has a world of knowledge and experience which comes through his voice, smooth in tone with a slight rasp, reminding the listener that there are still men who are beyond being selfish seeking only stardom and recognition from their craft. MiFlos believes that writers and performers have a responsibility to produce the best music of character, to influence young people to become the best they can be in life. "Music in my opinion is the most creative and respected form of art in our time. It's the comfort of many heartbroken souls, the source of inspiration for the living mind, and above all else, a connective thread between people of different culture and language. A piece of sheet music can be placed in front of a group of musicians who never met before, who don't even speak the same language, but they can read the music and play it together. What other medium of entertainment allows that type of integration and understanding? Music is the voice of life, a gift from God, period!" (MiFlos) -
