With a blend of Jamaican country and town life, and a splash of foreign exposure, Mighty Lion knows what it takes to satisfy a diverse audience. His passion for music has allowed him to develop superb talents for writing and rhyming lyrics, and he is presently working on developing further in the areas of sound engineering and music production. Mighty Lion refers to himself as a lyrical genius, and his strong passion for music has led him on a quest to make it into a full time career.
Andre Mighty Lion Karjohn was born in Mandeville Jamaica. He spent most of his childhood years in Montego Bay where he attended Barracks Road Primary School and Cornwall College respectively. At the age of eleven, Andres family moved to Kingston, where he completed his High School education at Wolmers Boys School. Surprisingly, it was not until graduating from high school that Andre discovered his passion for music. He recalls the excitement he felt upon writing his first song. I remember like it was yesterday, claimed the artist. It was a certain situation that I was going through regarding a girl that I cared about back in 1998. Fi real, and I decided to put my thoughts on paper. By the end of the day I had a full song. I was so excited I attempted to rhyme it to everyone I knew, making a million mistakes of courseLOL. That exact memory marked the starting point of a journey filled with trials and tribulations; fuelled by ambition, dedication and perseverance. That exact memory has led Andre to this moment, where he is not only writing lyrics on paper but also recording professionally in studios located in Miami and Jamaica.
Mighty Lion is fast becoming a force to reckon with in the music industry. To add to his list of skills, Mighty Lion is also a producer of his music. Using drum machines and software programs triggered by a keyboard, he constructs what we know as a riddim or beat, then he writes his lyrics around the beat creating a tune that defines his unique sound. In this department Mighty Lion gives credit to fellow producer and friend Miguel Profile Castro, who has produced a number of songs for the artist.
Artiste, Producer and Sound Engineer, Mighty Lion encompasses the future of Reggae music. We have entered a time where technological progress has removed the barriers surrounding knowledge. Mighty Lion has ensured that he is more than prepared to face all the challenges to come. Nuh get mi wrong mi know say its a tough business full of ruthless people. But a music mi love suh mi haffi work wid it. Whether mi like it or not di business part work hand in hand with di creating part. Cause once yuh create a music it nuh done deh suh. Yuh haffi market it as a product, create a buzz around it and distribute it. That have nothing to do with musical ability. That is straight business.
Mighty Lion said courage is what one must possess in the music business. A lot of times people might try fi intimidate yuh and mek yuh get discouraged. Dem try instill fear in yuh. Remember this, nothing wrong with being afraid. It is a natural reaction and we as new artist really taking a huge risk. A wise man once told me the definition of courage. Him say Andre, courage is not the absence of fear, but the strength to do what is right in the face of it. I know Jah bless me with the gift of music and the right ting fi me do is share that gift with others.
