MEINL PERCUSSION ENDORSER E N G L I S H:PERCUSSIONIST,VOCAL AND DRUMMER FROM repuplic dominican Miguel Fenton, who studied music at the Santo Domingo Conservatory and is originally from the Dominican Republic, took instrument making classes and studied in a variety of percussion workshops in Cuba, Haiti and with Airto Moreida (Brazillian Percussion). In 1975, he was a percussionist with the Santo Domingo music conservatory orchestra, the Dominican folk ballet, and the Dominican Republic Jazz Festival. Mostly interested in his country’s musical roots, from 1982 to 1985 he lead the Raices band (Jazz and Dominican folklore influenced music) along with many concerts of experimental blends of percussion. FESTIVALS AND BANDS Since his arrival in Montreal, Miguel Fenton performed and has become popular in most of Quebec’’ and Ontario’’ festivals such as the Montreal Jazz Festival, Coup de Coeur Francophone, Drummondville’s Folk Festival, Cowansville Festival, Toronto’s Hispano Festival,Percuphonie and Ottawa’s Festival,etc. He has played percussion with different Latin, African, Haitian, Italien, Latin jazz and commercial bands. In 1997, after many appearances on télévision and radio shows (Radio Canada, TVA, TQS) Fenton won the prize for latin percussionist with the best visibility with the Latin and Quebec public. Quebec’s culture. In 1994, SAINAGUA won the prize for best jazz-Latin band in Montreal. In 2005 he formed the band "Palo a dentro" a Afro-Dominican fusion. It's a combination of bachata, palo, merengue, Gaga, Yuloya, Salve...a savoury mix of rythms with a futurist and innovating approach. F R A N C A I S: RÉALISATIONS Musicien de formation du Conservatoire de Santo Domingo et originaire de la République Dominicaine, Fenton a suivi des cours de fabrication d'instruments, a étudié dans divers ateliers de percussion a Cuba, en Haiti ainsi qu'avec Airto Moreida (percussions Brésiliennes). Dès 1975, il travaille comme percussionniste avec l'orchestre du conservatoire de musique de Santo Domingo, le ballet folklorique Dominicain, ainsi qu'au festival de jazz de la République Dominicaine. Il s'intèresse plus particilièrement aux racines musicales de son pays et dirige de 1982 a 1985 le groupe RAICES (musique d'influence jazz et folklore dominicain) ainsi que différents concerts de fusion expérimentale de percussions. FESTIVALS/GROUPE MUSICAUX Depuis son arrivée a Montréal, il participe et fait sa renommée dans la majorité des festivales au Québec et en Ontario tels que Festival jazz de Montréal, Festival de Folklore a Drummondville, Festival de Cowansville, Festival Hispano de Toronto, Festival Jazz D'ottawa, Coup de cour francophone (performance avec Gildor Roy merenge country),Percuphonie, etc. Il est appelé a travailler en tant que percussionniste avec différents ensembles latins, africains, haitiens et italiens ainsi qu'avec des ensembles jazz latin et de musique commerciale. TÉLÉVISION/RADIO/CINÉMA Après plusieurs passages a différentes émissions de télévision et radios (Radio-Canada, michel cusson, Radio-Québec, Télé-latino, TVA, TQS, CKOI, CIBL), il gagne le prix en 1997 du percussionniste latin ayant la meilleur visibilité avec le public latin et Québécois. Il participe, en tant que figure centrale a l'émission TÉLÉ RITMO portant sur le folklore afro-dominicain et les instruments de percussions latino-américain.
