Hello, thank you for visiting my myspace site. My name is Miho, I am a flute/sax player lucky enough to be able to play music everyday for living, surrounded by so many inspiring lovely people around me. I am Japanese, grew up by the sea in Miyazaki, Japan and Christchurch, New Zealand, then later moved to the big city London to study at the Trinity College of Music. After college I had a few jobs playing in orchestras, but I fell in love with Cuban music and flew to Cuba to train in Cuban el Son/Afro Cuban style of flute playing in La Habana and Santiago de Cuba. It was truly life changing living in Cuba, training under and playing with some of the best musicians in the world, including members of Sierra Maestra, Buena Vista Social Club, Kotumba and Sones de Oriente.
In the past few years I have been performing world-wide with several groups and I played with some amazing artists at amazing festivals including the WOMAD festivals and a number of International Jazz festivals. This year (2009) I have played the alto saxophone for Ska Cubano on tours from UK to Australia, New Zealand and Morocco. They are such an incredible bunch of musicians, I am so lucky to be able to perform with them!
The most recent and exciting news is that I was selected as one of 8 musicians to record with the punk legend Iggy Pop for Orcon's project to re-record "The Passenger". On the recording I played the flute and piano. It was super super awesome working with Iggy!!!
In April 2009 I started a brand new 4 piece band under my name performing Japanese Punk Jazz. With a big big help from my friend/bassist Colin Hunter I have been able to write and perform original music with truly talented members. I am trying to collaborate my background influences together from all the places I have lived and cultures experienced. We have just recorded our first album "Postcards to Your Bed" with a producer Ollivier Ballester. Watch out... here comes the deadly little Miho! I hope you like our music and I hope you like my socks. Thanks for tuning in. Have a nice day!
Hey Miho, all well? Pascal told me you are coming to London soon. Maybe we'll bump into each other.. would be fun to hang out with you two. Nice piano shoes btw ;)
