Influences
I have learned the elements of the Danse from Farasha, Nejma, and Zayna. I have been inspired by Rachel Brice, Beata Zadou, Jillina, Artemis Mourat, Ansuya, Hahbi Ru, Gypsy Caravan, and Fat Chance Belly Dance. I have studied from a variety of incredible teachers including Rhea, Fahtiem, Suhaila.
I have also studied hand drumming with Mary Ellen Donald, Billy Woods, Mimi Spencer, David Korup, Raquy and the Cavemen and others.
Sounds Like
I am an original. I dance to everything from Tarkan to Rob Zombie.
I adore the following middle eastern, gothic, ethereal, industrial, ebm, metal, hardcore, alternative, electronica bands:
I guest DJ a few times a year with my fave DJs!!! I play music with a middle eastern flavor. I also listen to Rammstein, Delerium, AFI, Erasure, Depeche Mode, Cruxshadows, Prodigy, Lacuna Coil, Voltaire, Dresden Dolls, Bella Morte, Gary Numan, Zombie Girl, London After Midnight, Ayria, KMFDM, Peter Murphy and Tool.
When I am not listening to underground music, I enjoy the aural stimulation provided by mainstream artists such as Shakira, Gwen Stefani, The Police, Sting, U2 along with Middle Eastern artists such as Dead Can Dance, Pentaphobe, Maduro, Solace, Isaam Hassam, Hossam Ramzy, etc.

***CONTACT ME TO SIGN UP FOR MY NEW BELLY BASICS SERIES AT DYNAMIC ALL STAR DANCE ACADEMY, 2ND FLOOR keansburg pharmacy, MAIN STREET, KEANSBURG. MONDAY NIGHTS 6 - 7 PM. CLASSES ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!!!***
I have been dancing on stages, in a professional capacity, since the 80s.However, I discovered my love for bellydancing in 1992 when I took a class from a friend. Nejma was an excellent teacher and invited me to join Farasha and Zayna in the Moon & Star Dance Troupe almost immediately. Later, we were joined by Aminah and Perizad, other reknowned dancers.
The Moon & Stars performed throughout NJ, NY and PA from 92-99. We went our separate ways before the new milennium. I founded a new troupe in 2002, Tribe Anisa. After a year, we disbanded, as members moved around the United States and overseas.
In 2006, I founded the BellyStars Dance Troupe. Under my direction, the Troupe performed around NJ.
Since 2008, I chose to return to solo artistry, setting up a Gothic Belly Dancing group, a new website, and teaming up with the FinDicators to develop a new fusion form of bellydance - Rockabelly!
I perform most forms of Belly Dance: cabaret, tribal, tribaret, gothic, fusion, folk, Ghawazee, Egyptian, Turkish, Persian, and Gypsy. To say that my dance is eclectic is an understatement!
My audiences are always entertained as I am an engaging performer. I like to use a variety of props and I often draw receptive onlookers into the dance. I am particularly adept at candle and sword dancing.
I taught at Brookdale Community College and Bayshore Fitness for many years. I have taught students aged 7 to 70, both men and women, and differently abled individuals. I currently teach at Dynamic All Star Dance and Cheer. Monday nights at 6 pm, 2nd Floor of the Keansburg Pharmacy on Main Street.
Occasionally, I run henna (mehndi) and specialty dance workshops. My most popular dance series "Belly Basics" and "Beyond Belly Basics" is soon to be re-energized. I have also taught my workshops in NJ and PA: "Henna, Healing and History" and "Dangerous Dance and Pointy Props". I enjoy art in all of its forms. Music, dance, and visual media.
My favorite performance gigs are multicultural festivals, although I have performed at weddings, family barbeques, nightclubs, restaurants and bridal and networking parties.
I am the proud mama to a childe bellydancer! In my spare time, I do alternative modeling. I have also advised several NJ High School Dance Teams in the past 5 years.

I heart you back, Mihrimah. And you're pretty in your own right. I have pictures to prove it. And you should have received the disc, no? Your recent pictures are fabulous, as are you. Hope you're well. Have to see you sometime soon again!
you who purveys the entertaining art once only enjoyed by Sultans, Emperors and Kings...you who moves in the uncertain light of timeless grace as if some impossibly young girl imbued with the ages knowledge of self...you are bountiful and womanly yet I wish to do with you what the springtime does with the cherry blossoms...
