Mikas Biography
Young Mikas interest in music began at age 12. He played the clarinet, drums, and guitar. He pictured himself a rock superstar, banging his guitar into tiny pieces after stringing a screaming rip. But his rock star dreams were overshadowed the day he fell upon the hypnotic draw of dance music.
Already an accomplished musician, the move to mixing was a smooth transition. At the fresh age of 20, he invested in turntables and a mixer, and a few years later found a venue to display his talents, managing a club in Quebec City. But events took a turn for the worse, and the club was forced to shut down.
Dissuaded but not disheartened, Mikas looked to his next chapter. Music production was a natural step. He picked up his DJ gear and headed for Canada’s dance music capital, Montreal, with a new plan and a new name: Mikas.
He quickly discovered that his passion lay in creating progressive dance music, which he describes as a fusion of acid house, disco and Pink Floyd.
In 2004 Mikas found himself on the west coast of Canada, as a natural
progression he created Progressive Grooves Records in 2005. He built his label on the premise
of being different. His idea was to release music that would be great to listen
to both on and off the dance floor.
This is what he achieved, so successfully in fact, that the label music has
gained notoriety in Europe and worldwide, having been played by some of
the biggest names in the business.
In 2006 Mikas Second Release on Progressive Grooves" The Spirit EP"
reached the no1 spot for sale on Resonant Vibes and was in the overall top 10
for 7 weeks.
Last year, his remix of the single “Breathing You In” shot to the top of the trance charts
on, Junodownload.
Fall of 2009 have seen Mikas rising to the top of the charts with the song
Temperamental (Manuel De La Mare Remix), the track reached no1 spot on
almost all of the major dance music sites simultaneously. Including a staggering 5 weeks at the no1 spot on
www.beatport.com
in the techno genre.
In November Mikas released the "Elipse EP" The
release
received acclaim from djs in from across the board including Hybrid, Underworld,
Marco V, Eddie Haliwell, Jerome Isma - Ae and many more

Mikas Keep on pushing his unique progressive sound with a series of mixed
compilations Called Progressive Groove, the series has seen its third
installment this fall: Progressive Grooves Volume 3 Amsterdam.
These series include a one hour DJ mix and all of the single songs.
In just over two years, Progressive Grooves’ digital song sales have reached over
70,000. The label now includes a catalogue of over 85 releases.
