Improvisor, composer. Sonic process architect, Max/MSP programmer, occasional guitar molester. ...guitars, flute, voice, laptop, misc. electronics, things not nailed down, things nailed down...
Began improvising with non-standard techniques and electronic processing of the guitar at an early age.. Later spent time developing his live electronics work primarily on saxophone. Studied composition under Vladimir Ussachevsky in the 1980s. Concentrated on musique concrète and electronic music with tape and live instrunents, algorithmic and probablistic composition as well.
All with a diverse vocabulary of sounds and modes of expression crossing genre boundries and common categories - dark psychedelic rock, alt.folk/punk , funk, world fusion, abstract electronic, noise, ambient, free improv...drawing on Asian Tribal/Shamanic traditions, African popular music, Subshaharan African, Arabic and Gypsy elements, RnB, Blues, psychedelic, and funk of the 60s and 70s, free and modal jazz/improv of the 60s/70s, industrial textures, punk ethos, make it all come together in the here and now in some very unexpected ways.
Mika thanks for the add, I like what you're doing. I've posted a couple new tracks of my latest in sonic extremism, check it out I think you'll like it, we're on a similar level
Caro Pontecorvo (this Italian name sounds familiar...), what more can I say? This stuff is marvellous… new sonic landscapes pushing the blues towards a different orbit. Destination unknown. ...Derek rules! Hugs from Alessandro
