Science in general, medicine, technology, computers, psychology, sociology, politics, motoring, art (esp. nouveau and contempory computer art), music, movies, TV (sometimes), reading (prefer magazines or non fiction) - there isn't much that doesn't interest me!
Music
Into Etta james, Nina Simone and blues at the moment. Favourite of all time is Stairway to heaven - Led Zeppelin - closely followed by Smoke on the water - Deep Purple. Like the Strawbs - esp Brave New World, Halcyon Days, Shania Twain - is OK - listen to her in the car. Abba - especially Chiquitita. Whitney Houston - especially the soundtrack to the Bodyguard. I like soundtracks - they appear to record them better???? Stevie Wonder, I can listen to. Too many to list - just depends on my mood. In my car at the moment I have Shania Twain, The beach boys, Elkie Brooks - The bookbinders Kid and Abba's greatest hits! I need to burn a new CD to play in the car!
Movies
I like action movies - last one was Mission Impossible (Tom Cruise) on TV. The special effects were good - but the story appeared to be very familiar - maybe a remake of something else? I liked the original French version of La Femme Nikita, the American version The Assasin - wasn't bad - and the TV series was OK - until they ran out of ideas and then it got sillier and sillier! I actually worked in a Top Secret underground bunker - not like in the movies - just concrete tunnels - and a lot of hardware! Scary, being that far underground...
Television
I mostly watch anything to keep me amused - even soaps. But prefer a good move, documentary and of course comedy. Only Fools and Horses, Porridge, Dad's Army, Allo Allo and all those great shows the BBC used to make - before they started spending money on interactive and digital TV! BBC3 and BBC4 don't even begin until 7pm and then if they show anything good it's repeated on BBC1 or BBC2 - so why the extra channels? I pay £121 a year to them for rubbish now - all the good stuff has been sold off to UK Gold on Sky! If you happen to be American or not in the UK - this is TV in the UK! £121 licence fee for the BBC - before you even switch it on - by law. You also need a licence if you don't have a TV - but do have a video recorder or a TV card in your computer! The BBC can't even do a decent show to announce the winning Lotto numbers - thinking of which ..........................
Books
Must read more books - bought a magazine last week and haven't read that yet. So much information on the internet! I've downloaded some PDF's and printed them - must read them - research for my latest assignment! I used to read a lot of Dickens, H. G .Wells, classics. Computer books of course! I read a book on designing a web site. I learned that you should not have any page more than 4 clicks from the home page. Good advice. The rest of the book was useless! Not a word about Frontpage, dreamweaver, FTP or HTML! I hate to read a book and be disappointed at the end - like wasting your life. When I was a child I had difficulty learning to read - then suddenly it was easy. I read all the books in the school, the children's section of the public library and then started on the adult section! I tried to learn Portuguese - from a book when I was at junior school - no idea why..... It took the librarian ages to find the book too! just bought a book on computer programming and loaded the language in.... I'll have a go at learning that from a book and do some more programming - was OK doing programming under MS-DOS, but now have to learn Windows programming. FrontPage wasn't difficult. Now have 99 people who have visited my web site! Have a local company that wants me to re-design their site and lots of people want me to design web sites for them. Considering I started learning MS FrontPage in May - that's not bad.....
I shall be promoting aan album soon. A female blues singer who is excellent! If you've promoted someone from nowhere - let me know - I need more ideas!
Who I'd like to meet: Really smart people, crave intelligent conversation. Would like a decent game of chess too! Could play over the net - but really need to see the other player over the board.... Would like to meet some of the people I've met recently on the internet - especially the crazy and funny ones.... can't really think of anyone famous I'd like to meet - except perhaps Verity Rushworth - she's an actress - not very famous - but the character she plays fascinates me - probably not the same in real life....
