Music, Writing, Photography, Programming, Art, Literature, Science, Films... Life is too short - and they make you work for a living!
Music
Loads of stuff!
Beatles, Stones, Who, Monkees, Velvet Underground, Nick Drake, John Cale, Kraftwerk, Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Marianne Faithfull, Jacques Brel, Elvis Costello, Buzzcocks, Pistols, Ramones, Undertones, Cure, Blondie, U2, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Nirvana, early Suede, early Blur, early Oasis, early Verve (fickle, eh?). Ewan MacColl, Christy Moore, the Dubliners.
Film music - Ennio Morricone, Roy Budd, John Barry, Gabriel Yared etc.
Classical - Dowland, Bach, Beethoven, Debussy, Satie, Mahler, Schoenberg, John Adams, Philip Glass and too many others to mention.
This week I have been mostly listening to 'I'm Your Fan', a compilation of covers of Len Cohen songs, featuring John Cale's haunting version of 'Hallelujah'.
Movies
The Servant, Blade Runner, Memento, Paris Texas, Les Amants du Pont Neuf, Donnie Darko, Alphaville, Solaris (the proper Russian one!), The English Patient, Twelve Angry Men, The Usual Suspects, Casablanca, The Third Man, The Ipcress File, Get Carter. And anything with Juliette Binoche in (except the execrable 'Damage'!)
Television
Don't get to watch it much these days - but watching the little man is far more fun.
Books
'Lanark' by Alasdair Gray, 'Hangover Square' by Patrick Hamilton, 'Tender is the Night' by F Scott Fitzgerald, 'The Unfortunates' by BS Johnson, 'The Third Policeman' by Flann O'Brien, 'Flow my Tears the Policeman Said' by Philip K Dick (along with 'Ubik', 'A Scanner Darkly', 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?', 'Dr Bloodmoney' and loads of others.) Most things by Angela Carter. Donald Barthelme's short stories (the ones I understand, anyway!)
About me:
I grew up on the southern outskirts of London, and now live with my wife and baby George (born March 07) down on the Sussex Coast.
I work in print production, doing graphic design, repro, web development and generally fiddling with computers. But my real passions are music, writing and photography - see some pics here.
I play cello in veldt and have been writing a novel for the last 5 years (on and off). Will probably be writing it on and off for another 5 at least!
My most recent web project is an ecommerce site specialising in presentation folders (thrilling huh?!) - Folders4u. Folders4u also do printed cardboard CD wallets, which might appeal to some of you myspacers.
Who I'd like to meet: Friedrich Nietzsche (before he went nuts), Ludwig van Beethoven, Erik Satie, Colette, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Philip K Dick. But since they're all dead, it's not likely to happen.
Don't sweat it, man. You're cool.
Every once and awhile I have lil' contests where people leave me comments and they hit my top friends. Usually, no one cares. Like the last one was a request for limericks as comments, and my girl, Amy, was the only one that bothered.
Many congrats to you and Claire on your lovely son.
From what I hear of his first words I think you might have a promising metal vocalist there...don't tell the boss though, he won't be happy until George has a big pair of sideburns on him :)
Hello Mike - nice to see our blue lozenge being added to a few more friends lists. I see you like Dowland, and it just so happens we will be singing one of his pieces at our next concert! All the best

Hi Mike, like your profile I think I was that artist you're writing about, only I did crack up right at the start. Ooooh aaaarrrggh! Either that or it was my grandfather he went to Vienna Art Academy before the war, and probably bumped into Herr Adolf in his numerous attempts to get accepted there. See what happens when you snub an artist? Also, I can identify with your life near the sea, except that my wife lives with me, but I'm not really there, I'm somewhere else. Aren't Randall's eyes scary??? How do you cope...
Hey Mike- how cool to be your friend! Brill photo aswell, we're putting some different songs on our site tomorrow, so let us know what you think!
Hope all is well & lots of love N
