The music - no holds barred. As long as it grooves, I'm down. You can hear electronica, classical, lotsa jazz, lotsa funk, lotsa soul, lotsa hip-hop. . . My feeling is music is music and all those styles/genres are just different faces of the same thing. The beats and technique are what hold everything together. Here's the deal - I play the guitar, and beatbox at the same time. On top of that, I can sing vocal melodies while dropping the beat to create a 3- or 4-part texture on the spot - the basic material has no overdubs whatsoever!!! (eg - Awakening) ......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Just to mix things up a bit, I use a looper from time to time. I run my vocals through it, so I can sample the beat - in real-time - and sing over it, overdubbing extra vocal harmonies or rhythmic layers. (eg - Never Lookin Back, Chains) So when I play a show, I don't walk in with any pre-recorded material. If I use any loops, I'm just sampling myself on the spot. ......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
