Hello, and welcome to Mike Caputo's myspace page, a guitarist with a wide array of influences and interests...
I first began playing guitar at the age of five. After learning a few basic chords, and switching to trumpet at age eight, I rediscovered the guitar at age twelve. By age fourteen, I was practicing eight hours a day and digesting as much music as humanly possible. I spanned out into jazz and classical music. During these formative years, I took private lessons from such noted guitarists as: Frank Gambale (Chick Corea band), Andy Timmons (Danger Danger), Steve Kahn (Steely Dan, Billy Joel, Saturday Night Live), among many others. I also took master classes and taught at the National Guitar Workshop.
I excelled in classical music during my time at SUNY Fredonia and performed works by Bach, Villa-Lobos, Sor, Torroba, Paganini, etc. in recitals for faculty members, students, and the general public. I’ve done session work and taught guitar privately for over fifteen years in a variety of styles including: jazz, classical, rock, metal, new-age, etc. During this time I was a member of the progressive metal band "Senebyss" with fellow guitarist Jeff Cummings.
I’m a founding member of the progressive rock band “Mind Sky” and have performed with: Gamalon, Izz, Frogg Café, and Land of Chocolate, among others. Mind Sky released their debut cd in 2005, which has enjoyed international acclaim and brisk sales driven by internet promotion. Go to www.mindskyband.com for more details. Many distributors worldwide have the cd available for sale; I recommend www.kinesiscd.com.
I was featured in the November 2005 issue of Guitar Player magazine and described as “the quintessential progressive guitarist demonstrating a command of textural elements, acoustic guitar technique, and a melodic lead style utilizing impressive legato phrasing.”
In the summer of 2006, I completed and released my solo cd titled “Mosaic” of original acoustic material. This album is available through Prism Break Records, LLC which I established with two business partners as a vehicle to record and market my music. You can visit at: www.prismbreakrecords.com for more information. Album also available at: itunes, www.guitar9.com, www.cdbaby.com (click icon above), or email me directly.
More recently, I am now a member of the metal band "Steel Kingdom", which you can view right here on myspace. A new full length album was recently completed and is now available to the public. You can purchase at: www.theendrecords.com or www.prismbreakrecords.com (other outlets in the works). The band's new sound is influenced by Savatage, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Fate's Warning, Rhapsody, Testament, etc.
Please feel free to provide me with any feedback, as I take it quite seriously and appreciate it very much. Thanks for visiting.
