The warm sound of Mike Field's horn is smooth and melodic. It is an emerging voice in big city jazz. With twenty years experience as a soloist and collaborator, Mike is currently playing to Toronto audiences regularly at Gate 403 and at other jazz clubs around town in his own duo and trio. He is also a member of the cs field trio, an experimental music project that combines jazz with beatbox and spoken word, and of Jay Spectre, and indie rock band with a heavy hip hop influence. He can also be heard leading the horn section in reggae and world beat funk rock bands on a regular basis. His style is simple, it's sentimental, and it reflects the emotional colors we all experience in our daily lives.
Born in Toronto, Mike has toured as a jazz musician in New York City, Denver, Berlin, Frankfurt, Heidelberg and Cyprus. He performed at the Sommerwerft Theater Festival in Frankfurt, had a regular engagement in Manhattan's Washington Square Park and was the lead trumpet player in the swing band, Old Dogs New Tricks. While studying jazz performance at New York University, he worked with the renowned jazz artists Don Friedman, Janice Friedman, Laurie Frink, Pete Malinverni, Lew Soloff and Warren Vaché.
