Wikipedia states that ‘a free radical is a highly unstable and extremely reactive organic or inorganic molecule’. Mike Stanley’s Free Radicals however are an eclectic and highly original rock group formed in Madrid, Spain in 2.004 by veteran Bristol-born singer –songwriter Mike Stanley (Bristol, UK, 1960). Mike’s many influences range from 60’s sunshine pop, soul and country through 70’s new wave and power-pop. A first CD, ‘The Pretty Ghost of the Truth’, was released by Several Records in Spain in 2005 and received critical acclaim in the national music press. The studio- recordings are highly-polished and professional. According to Spanish Rock Mag, ‘Ruta 66’, ‘Free Radicals’ is pure POP with one catchy hookline after another. Most advertising execs would sell their very souls to get their hands on the potential hits contained on this album’. Free Radicals are grittier ‘live’ and like to rock out on a set of Radicals originals and 60’s and 70’s classics. Concerts have been broadcast live by Radio Station Radio 3 (RNE – Radio Nacional de España). Recipe for Free Radicals stew: 1. Get yourself an extremely tight and slightly explosive rhythm section. Rafa Fernández-Gil (Bass), Miquel Ferrer (drums). 2. Add a young and frighteningly fast lead guitarrist.(Amable Rodríguez) 3. Stir well. Now add just a touch of keyboard, sweet blue-eyed backing vocals and technical wizardry (José Alvarez). 4. Bring to the boil with some good tunes. Stand well clear and ...BOOOOM. For the meantime, the band just keep on doing what they like doing best. Gigging around the country and locking themselves away for weeks on end in the studio to lay the foundations for what will shortly be the new Free Radicals record (Name to be announced). Record deal anyone?
Talking serious now, I think you write really strong songs that work really great either live or at the studio.
It's a real pleasure being part of your friends connection and the incredibly enjoying Free Radicals band but not so pleased to be the soul behind the keyboardist's ugly face on your slide show.
