About The Man and The Poet.. Michael Guinn is a native Texan who holds an MSW in social work. What he witnessed as a caseworker for Child Protective Services is what inspired him to begin writing poetry. Since then, he has become one of the nation's top advocates for social justice using the art of Poetry and Spoken Word performance. Michael is co-host of the weekly Fort Worth National Poetry Slams held in Fort Worth, TX which now in its seventh year. The event is a free poetry slam and open mic held each Tuesday night at the Embargo 210 E. 8th Street In Beautiful and Historic Downtown Fort Worth.
Michael also competes in National Poetry Slams across the country and has placed as high as 7th at the National Poetry Slam Championships '07, 14th in '06, 12th in '04 and 20th in '03. In '06 Michael also placed 13th at the World Poetry Slam Championships and has consistently ranked among the top national and international poets since he began sharing his soul in 1997.
He is a member and co-founder of the Emmy nominated Performance Poetry Troupe "Spoken Images" as well as Founder of the Fort Worth National Poetry Slam Team which competes at the annual National Poetry Slam Championships.
Michael is the FOUR time Fort Worth City Grand Slam Champion and has also placed or won awards at the New Word series in Berkeley, CA and The Toronto International Poetry Slam Co-Champion in 06. Michael has also participated in the always prestigious Austin International Poetry Festival in 04, 05, 06, 07. In 07 he was the AIPF Slam Champion and placed in the World Renound Bluebonnet National Poetry Slam 02, 03, 04, 05 and 06.
Michael has performed all over the country and parts of Canada and is one of the most sought after Spoken Word Artist in the nation.
