Mike's Interests
General
My kids, drums, music, motorcycles, fishing, hiking, Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and good books.
Music
Growing up I was heavily influenced by the "big hair" bands of the 80s. My parents were die-hard Country and Bluegrass fans, so I heard of a lot of this music growing up too and I worked for a brief time as a disc jockey at a country radio station.
Now, I listen almost exclusively to contemporary Christian music. Back in the 80s there wasn't much but fluffy stuff like Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant, which I definitely wasn't interested in, and it was hard to take Stryper seriously with their yellow and black spandex--although Robert Sweet really rocks on drums! But now there is some really great stuff and the Lord has blessed my life immensely through the ministry of Christian music. Some of my favorite CCM artists are: Kutless, Newsboys, Sanctus Real, Skillet, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Rich Mullins, MercyMe, Casting Crowns, and SuperChick.
The song "Lord, I Believe" on my profile is one that I wrote and peformed by my former band, the ChangePoint Worship Band.
Movies
"The Ultimate Gift," "The Notebook," "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," "Bruce Almighty," "Pursuit of Happiness" "Braveheart," "Cinderella Man," "O, Brother, Where Art Thou?" "Les Miserables," "Saving Private Ryan," "A Walk to Remember," "Amazing Grace: The Movie," "Forrest Gump," "The Bodyguard," "Napolean Dynamite," "Gladiator," "Secondhand Lions," "Lord of the Rings."
Television
I don't watch much TV, but when I do it is usually "Everybody Loves Raymond" reruns. The only current TV series I've watched much besides "American Idol" is "House."
Books
I'll limit my list to a few of my favorite devotional/personal growth books:
The Great Divorce by C. S. Lewis, Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis, Finding the Will of God by Bruce Waltke, Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire by Jim Cymbala, The Cost of Discipleship by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, As One Without Authority by Fred Craddock, The Emerging Church and They Like Jesus but Not the Church by Dan Kimball.
Heroes
Jesus Christ is my only Superhero.
My other heroes are: My son Ryan, for his strong faith, patience and positive attitude in spite of his struggle against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, my daughter, Meleah, for how she is keeping her faith up and attitude good during her battle with cancer, and my daughter, Britnie, for hanging on being caught in the middle.

I am married to Theresa and the proud father of Ryan, Britnie, & Meleah. Sissy, the black lab; Molly, the bichon frise; and Tabby, the gray and black cat, are also part of the family. In January, My then 11-year old daughter, Meleah, was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer. She is about 3/4's the way through an 8-10 month treatment program. She has had over a dozen chemotherapy treatments, each lasting 4-7 days, and she's had a limb-sparing distal femur resection surgery to remove the tumor and is in therapy for that as well. The family would appreciate your prayers for us during this time of faith refinement. To read more about Meleah's story and sign her guestbook CLICK HERE
I am the author of two books and after over 15 years in full-time pastoral ministry I now devote my time to finishing my PhD in communication studies at Regent University in Virginia Beach, adjunct teaching and writing.

Who I'd like to meet: Jesus Christ tops the list and someday I will meet him as will every person who has ever lived. I'd also like to meet Jerry Lewis. My son has muscular dystrophy and I would like to be able to shake Jerry's hand and personally thank him for dedicating the last 40+ years of his life to raising awareness about muscular dystrophy and helping to fight MD.
Mike, We're praying for you and know you will come out of this fire like gold! We love you. "These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. " I Peter 1:7 Robbie & Janet McCord
