Mike Markey born in 1958 and brought up and still lives in Ebbw Vale :a long time blues fan, took up harmonica in late 70’s having been inspired by the likes of Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson and Sonny Terry as well as contemporary players like Kim Wilson of the Fab Thunderbirds and Magic Dick of the J.Geils Band.
Soon joined the Gwent based Tom Williams Jazz and Blues Band played for a number of years at the prestigious Brecon Jazz Festival as well as accompanying Jazz legend George Melly and supporting Georgie Fame.
Joined the Cotton Picka Rhythm n Blues band in 1990 on vocals and harmonica, this was followed by a partnership with Dave Dearnaley (Snatch it Back) in the mid 90’s with the Mercury Blues Band.
Mike went on to front “Reverend Vox” a popular RnB. band
Which went on to support the likes of Big Country, Geno Washington and Eugene “Hideaway”Bridges.
This was followed by Mike Markey and his Band; a raucous Rhythm n blues band which supported bands as Dr. Feelgood and the Average White Band.
Mike then took up a new direction with an interest in pre war and acoustic blues forming a new partnership with guitarist Nick Jones ………………
Agreed, I have two. This one is all original, the other has a replacement bridge and replacement tuners. The first electric guitar I ever owned was one of these - 1977.
A birthday is a time yes to celebrate again..but a time to reflect and redirect our ways and then..to see where we are and where we have been and where we want to go and in the end..i’m so glad to have you as a friend.
If you have some time I would really appreciate your thoughts on my new track 'Find your way home' written for 'Forever Searching' a group of incredible individuals who concentrate a lot of their time to keeping the profiles of missing children high and prevlant in the media... cases such as the McCanns.
Please support their cause by listening to the track and adding them at www.myspace.com/myspaceforeversearching or registering with them at www.foreversearching.com
Thanks for the friend request guys and G'Day from Australia. If you like this site, check out my band's site as well, and give a friend request there too. They look similar but they're different. Here is the link.
Hey Guys... I have a complaint! You played an acoustic set at the Borough Blues Club last month as the support act but unfortunately the headline band (complete with over a DOZEN effect pedals... Ugh!) then sounded very silly in comparison! Try not to be so damn good next time lol (but do come back soon!)
Good to find you chaps on here! I must confess I've never seen you live but know Nick from school! Hello Nick! I will make the effort one day!! Take care Mark
And if you're interested in National guitars check out National Reso-Phonic Guitars Scotland/UK...I am an artist dealer and can source and supply these awesome instruments at discounted prices...
Cheers!
Dave
