“A Lesson In What Not To Do” is the name of my forthcoming debut solo album. Due out in October ’09, the collection of 11 new songs was written over the past 5 years and recorded at Crush Recording Studios in Scottsdale, AZ from April - July.
The idea of the title comes from stories I would tell friends about touring, wild nights of debauchery, or drama between the band or with friends or girlfriends or whatever. A friend of mine always halfway joked that I should write a book, and when asked what I would call it, that was the first phrase to come to mind. I haven’t yet written a book, but if you listen closely, the stories are pretty much there.
In the recording of the album, I was very fortunate to enlist the talents of some amazing friends and musicians to add to the mix. Shawn Marquis, a friend since childhood, flew out from Boston to record drums on 5 tracks. Anthony “Twon” Ridenhour, another drummer from my old band, Leos Invention played on 3 songs that were written toward the end of that band. Ethan Newman and Tony King with whom I’ve played with in my cover band, Capital Down, played bass and drums on the record, as well.
I’m completely stoked for everyone to hear the record when it drops in early October, and I’ll make sure that everyone is kept in the loop. For now, I have some demos that I recorded at home for you to check out while waiting.
