Influences
I’ve always been most interested in the way the masters translate life experience in meaningful ways. Jim Hall, Egberto Gismonti, Astor Piazzola, though very different stylistically, all provided me with perspective on self-expression. Joann Brackeen, Pat Martino, the list is long. My writing style is the result of an intuitive way of perceiving music. I remember a listening analysis class in college. We’d identify the instrumentation, the meter, the artist, the period, but understanding substance was not something I could learn in the classroom. It's through life’s lessons that I gain the understanding that impacts what I do musically and unties the ropes that hold me fixed in place.

Michael attended Berklee College of Music and has studied with Jon Damian, Mick Goodrick, Michael Gibbs, Garrison Fewell, Al Tinney, and others. He has taught at Sunny Buffalo and currently resides in Connecticut where he continues to teach, write and perform.
