bio
in a world where success is often measured by money, we sometimes forget what it means to be human. pop singer / songwriter mike morello, an advocate of funding for arts programs in schools with the vh1 Save the music foundation, is sending the message through his fresh sound that success is really the expression of feelings, emotions and ideas through creativity. morello is a connecticut / new york area singer whose smooth sounds, vocal abilties and guitar textures translate well to all listeners. the 1970's meets today through the smooth textured blend of stevie wonder-esque songwriting with an acoustic pop delivery. morello's jazz and soul influences are easily felt, but it is his ability to tell a real story and target the human experience one line at a time which sets him apart from his contemporaries. mike morello says what we're all thinking.
mike's first full-length studio album, "leisure," engineered by joe carrano at starpin music, made a quick name for mike, but his new album on the same label titled "up to something" shows off many new facets of mike's songwriting talents while having that signature "morello" sound. mike can be seen in many live venues across CT, NY and will soon be taking his live act nationwide. mike is always searching for ways to expand his musicianship and is also the guitarist for CT-based rock band, echoing august.
the writing for "up to something" began during the sessions for mike's first album, "leisure" which accentuated mike's raw acoustic sound. the songs on "up to something" are quite different from "leisure" in that mike has employed a full band this time around which lends more energy in the tracks. also, the music is much more differentiated and shows off more of mike's many influences.
mike grew up on the coast of connecticut, right outside of new york city. mike used to listen to his mom spin jazz and soul records on the weekends and would just sit on the carpet and commit them to memory. his brother convinced their parents to buy him a guitar when he was 12 and since then, mike taught myself music and collected as many experiences as possible to write about.
"thanks for listening and for your support. i hope you all enjoy listening to my music half as much as i enjoy making it"
